When did you start gaining weight?

I'm 16+2, but if anything, weigh slightly less than I did before I got pregnant. My belly popped out this weekend, so there is definitely something going on in there, but no weight gain. I'm pretty petite and my weight has never fluctuated much.

Did you gain weight steadily or did it pick up towards the end?

I gained a stone in my first trimester and have gained 3.5 stone overall. Due any day now!

YouBoggleMyMind · 18/08/2017 09:29

I'm 22+4 and have gained 4lbs so far. This will obviously ramp up the further along I get.

manyaslip · 18/08/2017 09:34

I've had steady weight gain from about 5/6 months. Although it feels like it's ramped up lately. I'm 34 weeks now and have gained about 12kg in total so far. More to follow no doubt!

Navy123 · 18/08/2017 12:02

I'm 18 weeks and still weigh less than my booking in weight thanks to hardly eating until about week 16! What I've read is that no weight gain yet is normal so I wouldn't worry.

Lilypad78 · 18/08/2017 17:24

I'm 29 weeks & have put on about 8lb so far. Think I lost a bit in the first few months due to nausea & lack of appetite, then for ages I stayed the same weight whilst simultaneously growing a bump as my appetite still hasn't come back. Only started to gain weight since about week 22.

JustSaying99 · 18/08/2017 17:32

I've actually lost weight whilst been pregnant. I am currently 32+4 and have lost around 21lbs since falling pregnant. I was 'chubby' (BMI 30) when I fell pregnant but MW wasn't concerned and didn't want me to lose weight, but I've been more conscious with food choices and wanting to be healthier for baby. Walking as much as I can, and not drinking alcohol have all resulted in weight loss. Baby is measuring perfectly too and MW's just seem happy that I am doing well and keeping healthy.

INeedNewShoes · 18/08/2017 17:35

I only started gaining around 22 weeks and that was possibly because that was at Christmas!

Everyone's different so don't worry about it. I was concerned my not putting on weight was a sign something wasn't right but that wasn't the case at all.

ForumUsername · 18/08/2017 19:48

I didn't gain any thing up to 12 weeks
Since then I've gained 3kg, I'm 18 weeks tomorrow

Monkeypuzzle32 · 18/08/2017 19:51

I've only gained about 2 or 3 lbs and I'm 22 weeks but that's because I physically can't eat a lot as I get so stuffed I can't move! I wasn't tiny though so can afford to lose a bit

Babyblues14 · 18/08/2017 19:51

I haven't gained anything anywhere except for on my bump and that didn't start until I was about 24 weeks. 35 weeks now and still feel tiny and sick of comments about the rest of my body Confused
People seem to think I'm lucky for still being slim but having to have about 4 extra scans for growth doesn't help with the worrying. Thankfully midwife is not concerned and baby seems to be growing fine. I was actually looking forward to putting weight on the rest of my body as I have always been naturally slim but no luck Sad

Usernamegone · 18/08/2017 20:01

At 6 weeks I literally put on a stone overnight and I was still exercising 5 times a week and not eating anything different!

bakingmad83 · 18/08/2017 21:46

At 27 weeks I've gained 3lb with my 2nd, only gained 12lb with DS by 40 weeks. Think I probably gained most of my weight with him towards end of 2nd trimester and until the last few weeks of 3rd trimester, as didn't really gain towards the end. He was a healthy 7lb 14oz, so didn't affect him at all. We're all different :)

meltingmarshmallows · 18/08/2017 21:55

None in first trimester, a stone in second, hoping I won't be as bloody hungry all the time now I'm entering third (probably wishful thinking!)

Alexandra07 · 18/08/2017 23:33

I think that I lost 1 kg during the first 14 weeks... I am 26 weeks now and I have gained 3 kg (1 I lost + 2kg)! Everyone is different as said and gain weight at different rate. There is a chart that indicates how much weight you should gain by the end of the pregnancy depending on your BMI.

bakingmad83 · 19/08/2017 05:47

Although the charts are a useful guide, I wouldn't worry too much if you deviate. I was BMI 19 before both pregnancies, so in theory should put on at least 25lb going by the recommendations, but ate well and according to my appetite, though walk at least 5 miles a day, so maybe why I didn't gain so much.

travis45 · 19/08/2017 05:57

Not even weighed myself 😰, don't feel as a chunk as my other two pregnancies though, still another 7 weeks to go though 😕

Lillygreen · 19/08/2017 06:31

I only gained a very small amount until I was in 3rd trimester... Then I gained 3.5 stone in nearly 2 months! Amazingly I didn't get stretch marks.

Sasmac2017 · 19/08/2017 07:43

Omg how do you people gain so little?? I'm 40 weeks on Tuesday....I had gained about 18kg up until 38 weeks and gained a further 2kg since. 20 effing kilos. I have exercised 6x a week and eaten well. I officially today have given up, I am eating whatever the hell I want and not exercising anymore until child arrives. I was normal weight to begin with, maybe a little on the lower side but normal. So pissed 🙁😳😞

SheSaidHeSaid · 19/08/2017 08:49

I'm 11+3 and have put on 1lb.

INeedNewShoes · 19/08/2017 13:49

Sasmac, I think it's a combination of factors and probably not within our control. It'll be governed by hormones!

Urglewurgle · 19/08/2017 14:22

About a month before I got pregnant Blush

I weighed myself at 20 weeks and had put on 1.5 stone. I haven't dared since.

squadronleader87 · 19/08/2017 16:17

I gained 2lbs between booking appt and first scan (at 13wks). I don't have scales at home and midwives don't weigh you where I am but I used my parents' at around 24wks and had gained another 7 or 8lbs. I'm now 26wks, maternity clothes in my 'normal' size fit fine so I assume I've not gained more than would be expected.

Personally, I prefer not knowing how much or little I am gaining.

feelingblue123 · 19/08/2017 23:09

32 weeks here and 4kg lighter than my booking in weight. Dropped from bmi of 33 to 30. Just had growth scan and baby is fine, possibly a little big at nearly 2kg.

I blame extreme nausea, lack of appetite and life stress. Also, no wine.

Sasmac2017 · 19/08/2017 23:25

@ineednewshoes - yes you're probably right, I did put on 40kg with my first son, but I lost it all very fast. It's just so disappointing when I've done everything I can to be healthy and fit and still ended up being a lard arse. I just want to have my baby now so I can be 'myself' again. A lot could be fluid etc. my legs are only a little bit bigger but my bum has gotten quite large and fat deposits on back of my arms. I hope this baby is hungry :)

Chrissyza · 20/11/2024 08:13

Iv come across this old thread...
Im 22+5 and since LMP I have lost 12kg!! The midwife and specialist arnt worried about this but I can't help thinking it has something to do with my daughter being diagnosed with downs syndrome 😕
