I just cried over lemon sorbet.

Long story short: I've now been vegan for about a month, and lemon sorbet is one of my favourite treats.

DH thought he would be nice by surprising me with some (from Aldi). I have had both of their other sorbets recently, vegan-friendly, and they're nice. Just hadn't had the lemon because DH isn't a fan so we got ones that we both could share, usually.

He's working late tonight, I put baby to bed and settled down to have a scoop. On a hunch I read the label: &@£%ing contained milk. Can't even return it now as I'd already opened it (we're on a VERY tight cash-only grocery budget, and this was going to be a TREAT).

I have thrown the worlds biggest tantrum, complete with an angry email to customer services (also opened a broccoli today to find it mouldy so I was already pretty fed up with Aldi tbh) and now I'm just a miserable pregnant lady with no sorbet. I could cry... oh wait. I did.

Hugs pumpkin! ❤️

My corkers this week:

  • spilt my coffee down myself on the way to work. Went into new look to emergency buy maternity jeans and a top. The shop was ROASTING and everything stupidly low cut, I was ready to cry and finally found some over bump jeans and a normal neck t shirt. I refused to take them off, to only get changed AGAIN, so just took the tags and hangers to the till, and explained to the (very understanding) lady. She asked if there were any other tags on the jeans, just to check. For some reason, unknown to all mankind, I proceeded to lift the t shirt right up over my coffee stained bra 🙈🙈🙈 and went "nope, no tags!" Followed by "what the hell am i thinking?!?!?!" Thankfully she was in pleats laughing!

Then tonight, I ordered a dominoes as couldn't face cooking. The app pinged to say "ready to collect". I proceeded to loose my shit as I never collect, and burst into tears. Poor hubby was on his way out and had to run and get it for me 🙈🙈

I'm sorry about your sorbet, if you lived nearby I'd go and get some and drop it off for you!

Just to add, aldi do a great dairy free chocolate coconut ice cream, I'm almost sure it's vegan. I'm ex vegan (although try to still follow it as much as I can) and it's the best chocolate ice cream ever!

MarmaladeIsMyJam · 17/08/2017 20:37

It's his fault for not reading the label? Nothing to do with Aldi surely?
Anyway if you're on a tight budget and you've only been a vegan for a month I'd still eat the bloody thing!

Hi Op.
I'm really very sorry about your sorbet. When you're pregnant it's absolutely horrible when you can't have what you really want.

I am also vegan and I've been lucky to only crave fruit and veggies during my pregnancy but there's 5 weeks left and you never know.

You can return it if you don't 'like' it- its your consumer rights. (You could tell a white lie and say that you found a piece of plastic or something. I don't condone lying usually but they will swap it for you and needs must)

thingymaboob · 17/08/2017 20:54

Agree with @MarmaladeIsMyJam. If you've only been vegan for a month then I'd still eat it too. You don't want to waste something you've bought. Accidentally buying an animal product and then letting it go to waste is almost worse than eating it, don't you think?

MrsG30 · 17/08/2017 20:57

Agree with thingymabob - eat it (unless you're dairy intolerant etc, of course!). I made loads of mistakes like that when I first went vegan, and personally thought it was worse to waste it

Thank you all for making me feel much less insane than my poor terrified DH when he finally got home.

Pumpkin im sorry you couldn't say your sorbet.. I'm not vegan but I am dairy intolerant and I thought sorbet was one of my safe foods.. Since when does it contain milk .... Grr now I have to double check when I get sorbet out!!

MarmaladeIsMyJam · 17/08/2017 21:59

Didn't answer my question though?

Marmalade absolutely not Aldi's fault but still, all of the other supermarkets' own brand lemon sorbet don't contain milk so confused as to why theirs does.

And I'm not vegan for ethical reasons, though I do like animals and all that, it's for health reasons so not having any "exceptions".

Just wanted to say I cried the other night because my DH said he would make chilli for dinner, and I didn't want chilli. Literally, that was the only reason. Cried my eyes out. Pregnancy does weird stuff to even the most sane and logical women.

Isadora2007 · 18/08/2017 16:58

Oh bless you all. Sorry to jump on here as I'm not pregnant... just saw this thread on active.
My "funniest" pregnant crying thing was because I wanted to buy two tins of mandarins and there was one left and I didn't want to leave it by itself but didn't have enough change to buy all three.
I got home and then cried to DH about the poor lonely tin.

JustSaying99 · 18/08/2017 17:00

isadora that has made me laugh so much! It's also something I can totally see myself getting really upset about!
