Torn on whether to have a sweep

It's my due date today. I am booked in for a midwife appt at 12.30and she said at last appt about doing a sweep if baby hadn't arrived.

Other than some loss of mucus plug and BH (which I've had for weeks) there are no signs that baby is planning on vacating the premises any time soon!

I desperately want to have my baby at the midwife unit but now feel like a ticking time bomb

Posted accidently...

I am worried about a sweep kicking off a false labour or risk of membranes being ruptured and labour not starting. But if I wait to 41 weeks and labour doesn't start I really am on the clock to avoid induction

I'm not overly concerned about the sweep itself hurting but I'm worried aboit and sode effects that may land me in the labour ward instead of midwife unit

Anyone suffered any complications from a sweep other than discomfort and it not working?

They don't necessarily work but worth a try

I'm not aware of any risks involved. I've had quite a few

I had a sweep a couple of days before my baby was due, and went into labour just over 24 hours later. Mine progressed normally and I had DS in a birth unit with just gas and air. I'd say the sweep itself was unpleasant but not horrendous. If I had my time again, I'd probably do the same, if that helps.

I had a sweep at 4pm and had the baby the next day. I really wanted to avoid being induced as I wanted to be in the birth centre.

Had a sweep and as soon as I stood up off the bed my waters went. DD born a few hours later, was a very straight forward labour

I had a sweep at 41w and then again two days later. I REALLY wanted a midwife led birth, and that's what I got - labour started a few hours after the second sweep. I would have happily had one again (except baby number two came early).

I had a sweep at 41+1. Did nothing.

I developed a uterine sepsis shortly after birth. Both my baby and I were septic and unwell. I was perfectly fine before HCP started poking and prodding. I have no evidence to say a sweep caused it, but I wouldn't let anyone near me again if I did decide to have another child.

Well I decided to give it a go. Not quite sure what she did as she has written in my notes that a sweep was fone but has put that external os 2cm dilated but interal os closed. So I assume that what I had was a stretch without the sweep. Some spotting but nothing else happening as yet. Going to go for a long walk and bounce on my ball for a bit

I had 3 sweeps and nothing happened!! 4 days after last one and on the eve before induction my waters broke naturally and I went into labour naturally and on midwife ward.

Good luck with everything as well :)
