Twins??

Hi all, just wondering if anyone else is expecting twins? I'm around 11 weeks possibly a little over.

I already have 3 kids so this will be no 4 and 5! Totally unexpected and even more so when I found out at 6 weeks that it was twins lol! Such a contrast from my last few pregnancies where I was symptom spotting from the word go. It has taken a little while for it to sink in but now we are delighted and my other children are very excited!

I have my 12 week scan next week but had a private scan last week which showed the babies seemed to share a placenta so I think that means they are identical??

Firstly, congratulations!

I'm not pregnant, my b/g twins are 22 months. I cried for two days after I found out I was expecting twins - we had one son already, three was never the plan, we only have a small house, and we couldn't afford three. I had PND first time around, and was terrified of it recurring and just not coping with three kids.

But they arrived, and they were perfect, and I was besotted immediately! They are now two ridiculous, funny, maddening toddlers.

Regardless of how many kids you have, multiples are something special. Two at the same time can be exhausting, and expensive, but also so, so rewarding.

I thoroughly recommend joining TAMBA - the twins and multiple birth association - for a place to go for support and advice. And joining gets you discounts in various shops.

Good luck!

Oh, and the identical / non-identical thing. There's a whole world of new language waiting for you!

It's likely that, if you have one placenta, you're having identical twins. But two placentas can fuse and look very similar to one placenta - I was scanned at Foetal Medicine for a good hour while they tried to work out the answer to that question.

If you do just have one placenta, they'll need to keep a close eye on you throughout pregnancy.

Congrats!! I'm currently pregnant with twin girls :) 19+1! Mine have separate placentas so not sure on shared ones I'm afraid. There's more pregnant people with twins on a thread I started in multiples topic called twins due Jan 2017 if you want to join :) x
