Hi everyone.

Wondering if anyone on here has went for there abnormality scan and things didn't go quiet as seemed.

So am 10 weeks pregnant 4 days (though I was further on hence why I have went for my usual 12 week scan)

Everything seemed fine until the scanning woman kept listening to the heart beat and looking at baby's head.
She said the baby head looks funny shape and that I was to go for another scan in 2 weeks time with a consultant.
Am very nervous as to what it can be.

I lost my first daughter to meckel Gruber syndrome (hole in the back of the head, cysts on kidneys and extra fingers and toes)
I had to terminate at 19 weeks and I can't bare to go through this all again.

I have three healthy kids now ages 7,6,4 so am praying it's nothing that I cannot deal with.

If anyone has had any Miss shaped head baby's please get back to me worried mummy.

Thanks xx

From what I understand, meckel-gruber syndrome is inherited. I am sure you know this already but If you are a "carrier" and your DH/DP is a "carrier", there is a 1 in 4 chance your baby will be affected. As this has happened before, unfortunately, it might happen again as you and DP/DH are likely to be carriers. Were you given information about the syndrome? Have you had genetic testing? I can't imagine the stress you're under at the moment, worrying about all this. I am medical, but not an expert in genetics.

I had a scan at eight weeks where the sonographer found a chorionic bump, amniotic bands and an irregular shaped uterus. I googled all of these and found that the chance of the pregnancy progressing was very small - I had a high risk of miscarriage. If I didn't miscarry there was a chance of abnormalities. My 12 weeks scan was then undertaken by a foetal medicine consultant (in the NHS) who declared everything was 100% fine (well as much reassurance as they can give). Obviously these are very different situations but thought you might want to hear a positive outcome after fearing the worst type situation. Really hope everything is OK for you.
