Caffeine confusion!

Getting so confused about how much tea and coffee I'm allowed! I know it's meant to be less than 200mg but what does that actually look like? I'm having on average 1 cup of instant coffee in the morning (Azzera) and then a cup of tea in the afternoon. Is that about right? Or should I try to cut down even more?

TIA 😊

I drank more than that and believe it was within the limits. My calculation was about 2 (good) coffees a day. That meant I'd occasionally allow myself 3.

NHS website is good on this

"Guide to caffeine content in food
The amount in food and drink will vary, but as a guide each of these contains roughly 200mg or less of caffeine:
Two mugs of instant coffee (100mg each)
One mug of filter coffee (140mg each)
Two mugs of tea (75mg each)
Five cans of cola (up to 40mg each)
Two cans of 'energy' drink (up to 80mg each)
Four (50g) bars of plain chocolate (up to 50 mg each). Caffeine in milk chocolate is about half that of plain chocolate
So if you eat a bar of plain chocolate and drink one mug of filter coffee, or if you drink two mugs of tea and a can of cola you'll have almost reached 200mg. But don’t worry too much if you occasionally have a little more because the risks are likely to be very small."

Your current intake sounds fine

It gives you a rough guide on the NHS website, although it doesn't mention brands and I think azzera is more of a barista coffee yeah so probably a bit higher than normal instant coffee, closer to the filter coffee amount.

Thanks guys. Just got a bit freaked out as my SIL said she gave up caffeine completely!

I probably go over mine. I was a big coffee drinker but I stick to tea now and only have coffee when I really feel the need. I drink diet coke too.

If you love coffee then enjoy it. Surely its obvious you shouldnt have 5 mugs of black cooffee per day but there is seriously nothing wrong with one or two.
I love coffee and have one proper coffee per day, usually black. And then go for a decaf latte if i want more.
I feel like people get completely OTT even when just planning a pregnancy and then suddenly you are not allowed anything.

I have friends who completely gave up caffeine and alcohol when TTC and it still took months to get pregnant. And then during the pregnancy they were "not allowed" to have pretty much anything (my friend would not even have salad in a restaurant as she was afraid it might not be properly washed and give her toxoplasmosis!).
Then i have other friends who were completely relaxed about it (with a common sense of course). And sure enough everything went much more smoothly for them
