Nightmares

Silly question: I've had horrific nightmares all weekend about losing the baby and I'm really starting to get freaked out and scared by the dreams. Would my ob gyn office do an ultrasound just to check up on the baby for me if I asked, or will they tell me I'm to stop worrying and wait for my next appointment? I'm not scheduled to be seen til the 1st September when I'll be 12w3d. I don't know if they will take me seriously or fob me off. I feel stupid asking but I am so scared as the same dream three nights in a row feels like a premonition 😢😖😔

Unfortunately, wacko dreams are one of the 'perks' of pregnancy Sad Won't be helped by understandably being a bit anxious underneath. Are you in the UK, OP? Over here it's extremely unlikely but you can ask. A quicker and much easier way is just to pay for a reassurance scan at a private scanning clinic - depending on where you are, you may be able to get one for around £40.

I'm in the USA, my insurance covers all necessary scans etc but I'm not sure nightmares will count as medically necessary. Stress/anxiety might though.
I looked on google for a private scan place and the nearest one is 2.5hrs away and only scans from 14 weeks. No help lol.

I feel for you OP, I had the same nightmare at least once a week until 14 weeks. Now I just dream that the baby's born and someone takes him or her away. It's horrible!

Hard to know in the US - maybe they would, it's worth asking!

Nightmares have always been a downside of pregnancy for me. I think because we worry about things that could go wrong and it plays on our minds we end up dreaming of it. I had an awful dream and woke up crying that I'd gone for a scan and they told me I'd lost the baby. I worried for weeks and was convinced something wasn't right but it was all fine. I just had to tell myself what will be will be and it calmed me a little bit.

I knew u was pregnant once because of my weird dreams - mainly shooting people, killing or cutting off their heads - think mine was anxiety about looking after my babies, innate fight in me

You could try and tel your provider you're suffering anxiety and see how it goes

They are horrible but if it brings you any comfort, they are a normal sign of your pregnancy hormones increasing as they should.

Good news! My lovely nurse midwife did a quick ultrasound on their little portable machine and found a nice strong heartbeat in a few seconds. So relieved!!!!

Now I just need to figure out how to not let these nightmares get to me so much!
