3am and I'm bent over eating popcorn rant

Went to bed tired at 10pm. Rolled onto side as "must not sleep on back". Ahh, the return of hip/leg pain and stomach/leg discomfort. Tossed and turned (well slowly rolled while louding grunting in the hope of making DP understand my frustration.) Gave up a hour in as needed to pee anyway. Roll on few hours later I'm sat practising half arsed yoga poses trying to remove baby from my pelvic nerves as now my foot has gone numb too.

No question. Just a rant. Surely it's not just me...

Is this mother natures way of a "joke". I was under some "first time Mother" illusion that preggo ladies all nap and sleep carefree to "stock up on sleep" before baby arrives. I think I've had on average about 2 hours of uninterrupted sleep per night since the 2nd trimester started.

Do I have any 3am friends? 😞

I'm 27 weeks and I get horrible pins and needles if I sleep on either side. I try to nod off on my side but usually end up on my back. I spoke about it with my midwife and she said it's basically worse to not get any sleep than to sleep on your back, and we tend to move around in the night anyway!

3am friend here. Pregnant with DC2 only 17 weeks but I didn't sleep well with my first either! Was averaging 3 hours a night towards the end last time and then even less the first fortnight he was here! Sleep and babies (in utero or otherwise) don't mix IME , I'll stick the kettle on eh xxxxx

NinaMarieP · 14/08/2017 03:53

I slept however I could get comfortable, which by 30odd weeks meant switching between left and right every two hours due to hip pain, then having to sleep on my back for a bit when the hips were both too painful.

No longer pregnant but my baby has been cluster feeding since 9.30...

leighdinglady · 14/08/2017 04:12

4am. Pregnancy hormones have sent my IBS through the roof, so even if I do finally find that sidesleepingwithacushion sweet spot - I'm up and s**ting myself by 3am anyway. Not feeling much pregnancy 'glow' here, unless hot flushes count?

Hazandduck · 14/08/2017 04:22

Hey ladies I'm here too! 27 weeks and have had the hip/leg aches for weeks, and turning over is a mission. Woke up for a wee and can't get back to sleep obviously...i miss sleeping on my front lol.

NinaMarieP · 14/08/2017 04:24

Front sleeping 😍

I slept on my front my first night or two home from the hospital but there's no way I could now as my nipples hurt far too much. Can't wait to get back to it though.

Hazandduck · 14/08/2017 04:33

Haha oh @ninamarie I will do the same! But totally didn't think about the painful boobs...🤔 It's so weird how much it changes how you do everything. I was one of those people who always thought pregnant women were kind of exaggerating but I honestly cannot bend any more 😂 The thing is I absolutely love being pregnant though despite all these changes 😄

NinaMarieP · 14/08/2017 04:39

I'd seen people say they're boobs were too full to sleep on their front and at least that's not the case for me. Hopefully my nipples will recover soon and I can get back onto my front! I really miss it as I used to sleep like that all the time before.

NinaMarieP · 14/08/2017 04:40

THEIR!! My only excuse is six hours of cluster feeding.

Hazandduck · 14/08/2017 04:42

That is forgivable in the circumstances! I hope your little one feels full soon and you can get some rest. My bub is currently kicking away which makes me think when he/she arrives I will never sleep again....

MrsTerryPratchett · 14/08/2017 04:54

My first day pregnancy symptom was insomnia (did the test at 5am). Then terrible heartburn and joints aching and terrible pain. Then DD didn't sleep through for two years. And I mean up every two hours for two years.

She's six now and worth it. But I felt rage like I've never felt when people told me to 'sleep now' or gave me 'helpful' tips about sleep.

39+5

My usual nightly routine is:
Bed around 10.30pm lie on left side
Up at 12 to pee back to bed on right side. At least 30mins to doze back off
Up at 2.30 to pee back to bed left side
At least 30 mins to doze back off
Up at 4.30 to pee back to bed to toss and turn without getting back to sleep until I finally give up and get up at 6.00ish

This has been my pattern for at least the last 10 weeks and I am starting to understand why sleep deprivation is a torture technique.

LapinR0se · 14/08/2017 07:25

I am 21 weeks and sleep on my back. Doctor said it's fine and my body will naturally roll to the side if my blood pressure drops

OnNaturesCourse · 14/08/2017 07:28

Well it would seem I slept 4:30am through to 7am... It's a miracle!!! However I'm now feeling like everything in my middle half is broken. Back hurts, hips, butt, etc all feel crushed. 😭 I had no plans today so could have done with a few more hours. Stupidly told DP that I was staying in bed so I now have no one to hoist me up, looks like I'll be doing the "turtle on back" dance soon (DP tends to pull me out of bed in am due to suspected SPD)
