32 weeks pregnant - can I sleep on my front?

The only position i can get to sleep in is on my front. Our bed is quite soft so I find I dot find my belly is too big to be uncomfortable

Is this ok for the baby though? Baby centre says it's fine, but I'm worried I'll squish him or he'll get the cord wrapped around his neck!!

I can't even begin to imagine how you can sleep on your front at 32 weeks?!
You'd better ask your midwife, I would be worried about squashing some vital blood vessel or something.
Sorry I'm still boggling at the idea though!

Batoutahell · 12/08/2017 21:38

At this stage I don't think it's ideal but you must have a very neat bump to consider it. I still sleep half on my front but shove a pillow down along my side to prop me up partially and this is comfy. But I'm only 17wks with a large bump. Maybe yours is not that different to mine😳.

Honestly I'm very from the school of your body will tell you what's ok and what's not but if it was me, I'd probably be mentally uncomfortable with this at 32weeks if not physically.

ememem84 · 12/08/2017 21:50

I read that you're meant to sleep on your left side. Never your back and absolutely never your right side.

I try to go to sleep on my left but always either wake up on my right or back. It just feels comfier.

Midwife said to me to sleep however I'm comfortable. Comfort = sleep = happy rested mum to be.

That said i was always a front sleeper and would give anything to be able to do that again...!

MummyMrsMe · 12/08/2017 22:28

I'm so jealous that you can even try sleeping on your front Grin I'm 27 weeks and would give anything for a good sleep on my front but it's just not physically possible anymore! I also sleep on my side with a small pillow wedged underneath me... it's as close to tummy sleeping as I'm going to get for another three months x

I remember talking to my grandma about sleeping positions when I was pregnant and she told me she made herself a little nest of pillows so she could sleep on her front! I never managed it without dislodging them all. But if you could support your bump with a pillow or two and feel comfortable, go for it!

Dede124 · 12/08/2017 22:54

Wow I can't imagine how you could sleep on your front at this stage I'm 31 weeks and my bump is massive. I even get worried when I'm on my side Incase I squish my bump. I miss lying on my front it's the only way I used to be able to sleep. If you find it's safe to then go for if!

Mum2oneds · 12/08/2017 23:02

I was gonna ask about front sleeping. I'm only 10 weeks and only sleep on my belly which obviously I don't have a huge bump. But wondered when I should stop.

sororitynoise · 12/08/2017 23:05

33 weeks and still on my front.

Mum2oneds · 12/08/2017 23:08

Wow I'm so excited that I can sleep on my front a bit longer 😂. Only place I feel comfortable. Legs all crooked.. A bit like a splat.. Or a body chalked outline of someone who's fallen from a building.. Weird but comfy.

NewJourney · 12/08/2017 23:13

I am 34 weeks and still sleep on my front (in the weird splat position mum2oneds mentioned)

As long as your weight is off bump I don't see the problem. Ironically I always slept on my left side until pregnant... now it is far too uncomfortable!

So glad to hear other people still sleep on their fronts too - I've been stressing about it all night!

I will double check with my midwife tho. I guess I've never heard of anyone having problems with their baby from their sleeping position

Sorry to hijack your thread. I just saw a PP mention she was 17 weeks with big bump?
Im 16 weeks and stomach still as flat as a pancake.Nothing has changed whatsoever. Im beginning to get very worried that something is wrong ???

NewJourney · 13/08/2017 06:52

ReturnOfSaturn - different people get bumps at different times Smile. With 1st I didn't show at all until 27 weeks, 2nd at 22 weeks so don't panic and if you are worried check in with your midwife or give them a call Smile

Ookmybanana · 13/08/2017 06:53

I managed to sleep on my front right up until I gave birth. A long pillow helped for when things got a bit uncomfortable.

KarateKitten · 13/08/2017 07:39

Return on my first I had a beautifully flat tummy on my first till 24 weeks. This is my 4th in 5 yrs, I've a rediculous bump this time.

Don't worry, bumps are so different. It's all normal.
