Hi everyone I have a cold. Got really bad shivers, aches and my throats so sore I feel sick. Can't sleep which is why I'm posting at gone 3 in morning.
What can I take?? Obviously I don't want to overdo anything i already feel shitty taking some paracetamol. Am I ok on lemsips or anything??
Due to go on holiday Sunday it's bloody typical!

No lempsips, you've just got to ride it out I think. Sad

AmyB1986 · 12/08/2017 03:43

Hi hun, I'm up with tooth ache at this time in the morning too. I think the only thing you can take is paracetamol.
I had a sinus infection and my dr said olbas oil can be used if you're bunged up.
Also I found (I know they stink) cutting an onion in half and sleeping with it work a treat for unblocking my nose.
Honey in warm mil for your sore throats and jelly babies.
Hope you recover soon

I've never felt that ill when I've had a cold! If it was me I'd see my gp.
When I've been pregnant and feeling unwell I took paracetamol and ibuprofen HTH Flowers

Thank you ladies!

Sorry you have toothache there's nothing worse than having that!

If I feel worse I will try and get on touch with a doctor but I think it's just a cold kicking my ass Sad

Can you take lozenges? My biggest nag is my sore throat I feel like I've swallowed razors Sad

Gargle hot water and salt. It will help with your sore throat 💜

Spam88 · 12/08/2017 04:08

Don't take ibuprofen!

Could you try hot water, honey and lemon for your throat? I got through a fair bit of that when I was pregnant at Christmas. Hope you feel better soon OP Flowers oh and I'm not sure about lozenges, can you pop into a pharmacy to ask?

Snowdog37 · 12/08/2017 06:09

I'm just getting over a 2 week cold and cough from hell. Seems like it's normal to get sick early on like this. But it sucks badly as you can't take cold meds or cough syrup. Only paracetamol, hot water with lemon slices and honey, Vicks. I've still got a cough now but it's gradually getting better. I've honestly never felt so crappy though. I'm now 9w3d but have been ill since 7w. Hopefully this means the baby is nestling in and getting strong and growing well! Hope you feel better soon.

Upyourdaisy · 12/08/2017 06:26

You can make your own lemsip, with honey lemon hot water (sugar if you want, otherwise it's bitter) and a couple of paracetamol. Always used to perk me up.

Hannabee123 · 12/08/2017 06:28

Ok thanks everyone can't believe how much I've relied on the shop and all it's medicines to make me better Sad

Yep paracetamol, drink lemon and honey. Head over a bowl of steam with a towel for 10 minutes 4 times a day to help to shift the snot. I remember when I was pregnant I didn't think cold and flu meds made much difference until I couldn't take them!

Hannabee123 · 12/08/2017 07:28

Thankyou il send my partner out to the shop for some lemons when he's up Brew

Hot tea, lemon & Ginger if you have it. Or steep some fresh ginger in hot water. Also NeilMed do a sinus rinse which really helps with congestion. It's just saline solution so fine for pregnancy. And paracetamol.
I feel for you, I had a horrendous virus when I was heavily pregnant with my second.
But hot drinks do help, even hot ribena!

noodleaddict · 12/08/2017 08:03

Oh I feel for you, I'm 21 weeks and I had the worst cold last week, it really knocked me. Just what everyone said above. All the best, hope it doesn't last too long BrewFlowers

StylishDuck · 12/08/2017 08:18

It's rough when you're pregnant. I usually rely on night nurse to knock me out when I've got a cold but obviously that's a big no no. You have to just dose up on paracetamol. Hot water with honey and lemon is good. As is lemon & ginger tea with some honey. Steam is good too and olbas oil is brilliant stuff. I think you can get olbas oil bubble bath (I'm sure I saw it in home bargains).

MaryShelley1818 · 12/08/2017 09:27

Paracetamol, Halls Soothers and a NeilMed Sinus Rinse!

eurochick · 12/08/2017 09:54

Sterimar is good for a blocked nose

I had a cold about half way through and it was absolutely dreadful. It seemed to affect me more than usual and obviously there's not much you can take either. So my sympathies are with you! Normally if I felt too sick to go to work I would take a Lemsip, then have that bit when you feel ok, feel bad about being at home and do a little bit of housework until I crashed again, but that time I don't think I moved for an entire day at least. Paracetamol, honey and lemon, lots of fluids and REST. You are not supposed to take nasal decongestants but I ended up doing it anyway after nothing else worked and I really could not breathe or sleep at night.
