Hi
I'm 33+1 with DC3 - been to see CMW today.
She measured me 3 weeks behind and said she would be referring me to hospital had I not got a scan already booked for 2 weeks time.
I'm thinking it is nothing to worry about - she would have rang hospital for them to see me sooner if it was something, right?
Does the measurement mean DC will probably be smaller than average?
Thanks in advance Smile

I havent had experience of this but they may just want to check the baby is growing ok. I'm sure everything is fine though, i know people who have been told they are going to have massive babies and they havent been lol

They will just want to scan you so that they can take more accurate measurements. The measurement the MW takes can vary based on where the baby is lying, or slight difference in where the tape is placed even. With a scan they measure the circumference of the baby's head, abdomen and femur length and from this estimate the baby's weight. They will then know if the baby is within normal ranges for gestation and plot this against your individual growth chart.

I had a scan this week as my MW measured me 1cm growth since my wk28 appointment 3 weeks ago. All was ok with baby when we were scanned, so hopefully it will be the same for you.

I was measuring a week ahead consistently then, randomly, at 36 weeks suddenly 3 weeks behind. Midwife was concerned so sent me for a growth scan. Everything perfect with the baby and the right size, they said she'd probably just changed position which had altered my bump measurement. Honestly they're really inaccurate and more of a guide than an actual measurement, don't worry!

They will also check for any blood flow resistance in the umbilical cord and placenta, in case there are any issues with nutrition passing from you to the baby.

Thank you for the reassurance ladies Smile
Will wait for scan in 2 weeks
