Early Scan???

Good idea?

I've booked myself in for an early reassurance scan on Saturday – By then I would be 6+6 weeks pregnant. The reason is; I'm paranoid and a general over worrier!!!! Saying this I'm worried that ill go and they wont be able to detect a heartbeat as im too early. Im 6+2 weeks today dated from the first day of my last period.

Am I overthinking?

Should I cancel or just go?

I saw a faint heartbeat at 6+2 when I went for my first scan although I'm not sure if that would be the same for everyone because your dates could be slightly out from what you think so you could be 5+something and so poss not see a heartbeat.

I would say though that if you're worried then to go as there is the possibility.

MagicMoneyTree · 10/08/2017 18:10

Everyone is different but I couldn't have done it that early because I knew I'd cope worse with not seeing a heartbeat than it was worth for the reassurance. Also, at all my scans I've only been reassured for a few minutes, then I go back to "what if" unless I'm careful to shut those pointless worries out of my mind. I would want to be at least 8 weeks at a reassurance scan just to increase the likelihood of there being a heartbeat. Congratulations on your pregnancy! X

I saw a heartbeat at 6+5 last week after having a complete freak out due to a previous miscarriage. I felt much better during and for a couple of days after the scan but I'm very aware that it could still go wrong. So it might not be as reassuring as you hope, or the reassurance may not last. But it may still be worth it.

boopdoop · 10/08/2017 18:17

We saw a heartbeat at 6+5. I'd had s previous mc, and had a little bit of bleeding at 5 weeks, so had an early scan. It was reassuring. Our local Early Pregnancy Unit wouldn't scan me until after 6 weeks so that there would be a heartbeat.

starsshinebright · 10/08/2017 18:47

I saw a heartbeat at 6 weeks exactly. I had an early scan due to recurrent miscarriage. Good luck!

hungryhass · 10/08/2017 19:03

Thanks all! @starsshinebright - when you where 6 weeks was that dated from the first day of your last period?

I would give it a week longer if you can just in case your dates are a little out. I had an emergency scan as I bled a little and thought I was 7 weeks. I'm hoping I'm completely wrong with dates and they are repeating it next week. I'm a total worrier and had booked a private scan anyway. It transpired I didn't need it unfortunately. I think if this doesn't work out I'd still have an early scan because I'm rubbish at keeping secrets and I'm too easily read. People already guessed this time but I've now had to tell the the bad news in case all is not well

starsshinebright · 10/08/2017 19:31

hungry yes I was 6 weeks from first day of last period, the ultrasound also measured baby at 6 weeks exactly.

charlie0692 · 10/08/2017 22:43

I have a private scan booked in a couple of weeks. I'll be 7w3d at that point by my calculations. Praying to see a heartbeat. I'm too much of a worrier to wait for my 12 week scan. X

Congratulations @hungryhass how far along are you? I have mine booked for a week on Saturday, I'm counting down the hours, so so excited/nervous ☺ I'll be 7w3d at that point x

AccrualIntentions · 14/08/2017 15:50

I'd wait until after at least 7 weeks if you can. I was given one as a matter of course (had been seen at a fertility clinic) and they wouldn't do it before 7 weeks because they'd found scans before that could cause more concern than reassurance, due to the fact it's not always possible to see a heartbeat etc that early.

AccrualIntentions · 14/08/2017 15:51

Didn't RTFT! Congratulations, glad it went well and you were able to see the heartbeat Smile

hungryhass · 14/08/2017 15:54

@charlie0692 - thank you very much! I was 6+6 yesterday when I had the scan and 7 weeks today. They measured me exactly 6+6 yesterday which I thought was cool! Good luck - you will be fine - so emotional it was!

I can't wait @hungryhass I'm tempted to see if I can bring it forward a couple of days as the waiting is driving me insane ha.

I haven't really felt pregnant until today, feels like the morning sickness is starting. Feel horrible but also glad as at least something must be going on inside to make me feel this way ha x

hungryhass · 14/08/2017 18:39

@charlie0692 I know how you feel! I booked mine on the Thursday for Sunday and had to keep myself busy for 2.5 days as I could not stop thinking about it! At one point I was like "what if it's twins?!" From what I have read any time from 7 weeks is the best time.

I've had symptoms from 3.5 weeks. I thought they where quite strong but luckily I have not been sick yet - although the nausea is terrible :(
I'm absolutely exhausted but luckily I'm off work for two weeks!
