Spotting / light bleeding at 6weeks after going to the loo...

Sorry for a TMI thread, but it's my first pregnancy and I haven't told anyone yet, so not sure who else to ask! I'm 6 weeks pregnant and haven't seen a midwife yet, so mumsnet is my one resource...

Twice now, I've wiped after going to the loo and seen red blood on the tissue. It's very light, not enough to show up on a pantyliner, but of course the first time I panicked and rang the NHS out-of-hours number. On their advice I went to a walk-in EPAG unit for a vaginal scan - the nurse couldn't see anything wrong but did say it was too early days to see an embryo, just the yolk sac. I'm a little concerned because on the report she wrote 'unknown' next to Pregnancy Viability... gulp. However, I went away, mostly reassured.

Two days later, and I've just been to the loo and it's happened again, with more blood than last time. I don't know if I should go back to the EPAG unit, as I can't imagine 2 days will show anything particularly different? I'm not cramping, which is my one golden hope that this is NOT the start of a miscarriage, but still definitely worried.

The only link I can find between the two incidents is that in both cases I'd just had a BM (sorry, really TMI!). I've been constipated since conception, so my question really is has anyone else experienced bleeding purely as a result of pooping? Is this normal? And before anyone asks, yes the blood is definitely vaginal - I've had a fissure before and it was very different!

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me...

Is it definitely vaginal bleeding? Could be a tear from bm or piles? Fingers crossed for you xxx

It's quite early to tell by scan. I have had and I know and several people having the same thing. Blood / weird coloured discharge at 5 - 6 weeks. My sister has also had bleeding at 8 weeks. It is fairly common to bleed in early pregnancy although I still recommend getting things checked out. Do you have an early pregnancy unit which you can contact?
I had this and I couldn't see much at 6 weeks. I had a follow up scan around 8 weeks and it was fine. I had bloody discharge for a week... I'm now over 20 weeks! Don't worry too much just see who you can contact for a follow up

I have this. Told the midwife and she said "it's probably heamoroids" and wasn't concenred. I upped my fibre intake...all good.
12 week scan was fine. Has happened once since (on holiday - terrible diet) but am remaining chilled. Or trying too!

I would ring EPU again for advice. Two days is indeed a very short period to show much difference on a scan, so they may just advise you to come back again in a week or so unless the bleeding has become significantly heavier by then.

I'm sorry you're going through this and good luck.

I had this pretty much from conception to 12 weeks. A couple of times rather a lot of bright red blood all at once and then low level the rest of the time. I was in early pregnancy unit about 3 times until they worked out I had a hematoma on the uterine wall. Caused no problems (apart from the worrying continually) and now have a healthy three year old. Hopefully it will turn out to be just a worry for you and nothing more.

I had one similar episode when I was around eight weeks pregnant. It was entirely constipation related. I just upped my fibre intake for the rest of the pregnancy. Ds is currently playing "Fireman Sam gets eaten by a T-Rex" on the floor next to me.

I've just had a similar thing last week and went to the epc. They measured the sac where I thought I was at about 7 weeks but it was empty so I'm going back next week (2 weeks after first scan). The fact they saw something is good news for you. As my midwife said a little blood seems to go a long way. I was told not to worry unless I needed to change my pad 3-4 times a day. If it's brown it's old blood anyway. If you are worried I would give them a call for peace of mind though. I wouldn't wish this limbo on anyone.

I had this around this far on. I didn't know I was pregnant at the time and thought it was the beginning of my period. I would get it checked though. Hope all is okay x

I had a couple of spotting episodes in early pregnancy and all was fine.

Nothing much that you can do, but if you're not heavily bleeding and aren't in pain, then it's a positive thing.
Try to relax and wait until it can be determined if it's growing. Either way there's nothing you can do, so try to keep your mind busy with other things.
Positive thinking for you.

I had this at 12 weeks and 14 weeks after a BM. Definitely was vaginl bleeding and got checked out at the EPU and everything was fine.

Have been suffering with constipation on and off and I think straining during a BM can irritate the cervix. I've upped my fibre and haven't had it since and am now 21+2.

Hopefully just one of those things and doesn't necessarily mean anything bad Smile
