Suspected Gestational Diabetes, diet advice before GTT

Saw my midwife the other day, I have a couple of the GD symptoms (dry mouth, baby measuring big) so I've booked myself in for the GTT early next week.

I feel really guilty that I could have been harming my baby so since my midwife appointment I've cut out bad sugars and I'm trying to eat low GI foods but then someone has suggested that eating better leading up to the GTT might give a false result and I should eat what I would normally eat. So now I don't know what to do, I don't want to cause further harm to my baby by eating things I shouldn't but I also don't want the test to say I don't have it when I do which would cause even more harm to my baby.

Can someone help?

Thank you, made the mistake of googling complications of GD and it's scared me a little, just want to give baby the best start.
