TMI! Constipation

I'm almost 27 weeks and for the last week or so have been uncomfortably constipated! Does anyone else have this and do they have any tips?

Over the weekend I didn't go for three days and then when I did it was very uncomfortable and sore after! (Sorry TMI) Blush

Now I haven't been for two days again and I'm dreading needing to go! Sad

I have suffered with this in the past when I'm slack with keeping my fibre up but then it easily sorted by increasing fibre. I've been trying really hard to have lots of fruit and veg and adding flaxseed to my breakfast.

Any tips for relief would be greatly accepted!

Lactulose! You may need a prescription from the GP but it will definitely get you moving again, but not too violently Wink

SueGeneris · 08/08/2017 20:35

Yup, lactulose. I am pretty sure you can buy it otc in the chemist. Pregnancy is so glamorous isn't it?!

SueGeneris · 08/08/2017 20:36

Also, generally up your water intake if you can.

NewMumSoon · 08/08/2017 20:39

Thanks for your replies :)

I will look into Lactulose from the pharmacy tomorrow. Considering a day at home as I just feel so full and bloated (and windy!) haha.

Oh the glamour!!

Lactulose in a weak Ribena is the only way I could face drinking it! 😷

NewMumSoon · 09/08/2017 12:55

Saw the doc today and she prescribed me some Lactulose. Took three spoonfuls when I got home but I read it can take a couple of days to work.

@GingerRogers84 I actually don't mind it - it's just very very sweet!!

Flax seed on your breakfast, in mashed potato - any way you feel like getting it down you; lactulose; drink lots; use glycerine suppositories rather than straining, which can cause piles; get a Sqatty Potty (cheapest on ebay) which puts you in the best position for evacuating bowels.

You are talking to an expert here!

NewMumSoon · 09/08/2017 13:55

Thanks @Blossomdeary I will try those for sure!

apparently some people are constipated the whole way through, so count yourself lucky! I have the opposite problem - 9 months of the shits. It's been suggested I ask the doctor for something to firm it up, but I don't want to go too far the other way.

ScotsLamb · 09/08/2017 22:30

SayNoToCarrots I had diarrhoea for 5 days last week and followed all of the guidelines: more fruit and veg, more wholemeal, more water etc and I'm now 3 days without pop! At all! I've gone the complete opposite direction. Guidelines for getting out if this are more wholemeal, more fruit and veg, more water. Same as diarrhoea. I get the feelinh I might yoyo.
I'm camping and have an 8 hour drive on Saturday. Is it worth me investigating Lactose or hope that nature takes over?

NewMumSoon · 11/08/2017 07:59

@ScotsLamb definitely get some Lactulose. It look about 24 hours to work and I feel so much better. I'm going to keep taking it for a few days now and then just take it when I need it. The doc said it's very gentle as it is just a softener (eww!) so I wouldn't be worried about taking it while camping - it shouldn't send you back the other way.
