Did anyone ever get an adverse reaction to this? I had it today and now my whole arm is swollen from the shoulder to the elbow - it's honestly about twice the size of the other one! Slightly tender but nothing too bad.

Just wondered if anyone else had the same experience? I'll call 101 to be on the safe side if not, but I feel fine so am reluctant to do it if it's totally normal!

Any time from 16-32 weeks I think utter - maybe just ask your midwife at your next appointment. I got in weeks so it didn't clash with my flu jab just in case!

Yes I had a reaction similar to yours; give 111 a call and they'll advise you.

peachgreen · 08/08/2017 19:55

Confusingly in the US you can only get it from 20 weeks but in Scotland they say as soon as possible from 16 weeks. Hmm!

Yes I'm not too worried about the swelling around the injection site but actually my elbow is the worst - it's giant! Which seems a bit odd...

@PastysPrincess Did it cause you any issues? I'm loathe to waste 111's time unless I need to...

I had mine yesterday and it just feels really sore like iv been punched in the arm and it's hard to move my shoulder. I couldn't get comfortable with it last night, but no swelling as far as I can see!

takemetomars · 08/08/2017 20:11

keep an eye on the swelling, if it starts to reduce int the next 24 hrs then no problem. Please don't bother 101 with it, they will just tell you to see you Go and if it is stable/reducing in size then there is nothing your GP can do.

in England we give pertussis at 20 weeks or after the foetal anomaly scan, not before

PastysPrincess · 08/08/2017 20:16

We were alright in the end but as we had called 111 quite late in the evening they told my husband to set an alarm every two hours and wake me. If he couldn't wake me easily he was to call an ambulance.

PastysPrincess · 08/08/2017 20:24

Forgot to say draw a line around the swelling so you'll be able to see whether it's better or worse overnight too.

peachgreen · 08/08/2017 20:48

@takemetomars I think that must vary by trust as NHS website says 16-32 weeks. My midwife booked mine for me - I'm 16+2. Sounds like 111 gave Pastys different advice but I think while I'm feeling well, and providing it doesn't spread further, I'll just see how it is in the morning.

@PastysPrincess Thank you :) If it gets bigger before bedtime I'll call 111 but otherwise I'll leave it be until the morning and see how it goes. Can't draw round it as it's pretty much my whole upper arm! But I'll be able to see if it spreads below my elbow.

takeme the latest guidance in England is from 16 weeks but it hasn't nearly updated across the board yet.

mummabubs · 08/08/2017 22:31

I had swelling, redness and pain afterwards for about 5 days. Personally I didn't seek any advice, used a cold patch and within a week it was fine :)

dippypanda · 08/08/2017 22:31

I had some swelling but the pain was worse and couldn't lift my a properly for a couple of days Confused

peachgreen · 08/08/2017 22:38

Thanks everyone, I feel much more reassured. It's almost comically swollen now but still very little pain and no heat or anything so I reckon I'll be fine. What would we do without Mumsnet?!

I had this a few weeks ago I was warned if the side effects by the nurse and a red swollen arm was one. Luckily enough I was fine x
