MW Contradictions!

So, am 38+2 here today and feeling a bit confused

Went for my 36 wk check and was told the baby was breech. I needed a scan and was told in no uncertain terms that there was no way that they would try and turn the baby due to previous EMCS. Was also told that I should be prepared to be admitted to hospital and to make preparations for an ELCS. This was community mw, not my usual one.

Went for said scan at 37+5 to be told by the consultant that baby is happily head down and 3/5 engaged. She also said that they would have tried to turn baby if they felt it necessary.

Yesterday was my 38 wk appointment with my usual MW. She agreed that baby was head down but was on the brim of my pelvis and wasn't engaged!

Feeling really confused now and a bit anxious after the relief of knowing he was engaging, as I am really hoping for vbac this time.

Not sure if I am after advice or just some support!

Thanks for reading if you got this far ..........

So she was wrong. Or the baby turned.
Looks like you'll get the birth you want.

I heard that with subsequent babies its quite common for them to pop in and out of the pelvis from engaged to not engaged.

Ah right, I wasn't aware of that Ann

The consultant said it wasn't likely for him to disengage, guess I just need to wait it out.

Getting so much pressure on my bladder and pelvis, it feels like he's very low down

It's just hard now, I want him here safely, and all this time on my own on mat leave gives me way too much time to overthink things Hmm

I have given up with midwife contradictions! I got sent for a growth scan at 36 weeks and got told I have raised fluid and baby was just over 10th percentile. Made an appt with community midwife a week later as I was pretty anxious and the midwife looked at my notes and said she had no concerns at all about me still delivering at midwife centre looking at the scan and that someone has to have the smaller babies.

The week after I went to my 38wk appt with different midwife (day before my follow up growth scan). She basically told me to prepare myself for induction as if he was still on 10th percentile they would want to induce before my due date because baby is too small!

Came away majorly anxious again. Went to the scan and baby is still just over 10th and I've been discharged back to midwife care.

So frustrating when you get different messages especially this close to the end of pregnancy when you need to be as relaxed as possible!

I would say if he is now head down at 38wks it is unlikely he will turn breech again but can engage and disengage (lots of second babies only engage once in labour)

Sounds rubbish Chelle! When's your due date?

It just frustrates me as I take what they say at face value, get stressed, get over it, then it all changes again!

I went to see my midwife at 38 weeks, she said maybe 2/5 engaged. Next week, different midwife said not engaged at all. Three days later - on his due date! - baby arrived. Induction date duly cancelled!

chelle85 · 08/08/2017 11:39

I'm due on 16th Aug according to their dates but know I could only possibly have conceived 5 days later than they say so not holding out too much hope of him turning up before then. Not looking forward to having to argue about induction (they already want to do a sweep on my due date)

I think it is just a case of taking a deep breath and taking what is said with a pinch of salt. Easier said than done!
