Hello everyone, I am dying to get away for the May bank holiday, by which time I?ll be 7 months pregnant. I know I?ll probably need the all clear to fly, but if I get it, can anyone recommend somewhere for 4/5 nights in Europe where it will be hot enough to lie around by a pool and swim during the day, but nowhere too ?naff resorty? ? don?t want to be stranded in some vast hotel complex in the middle of nowehere, so somewhere in a town (or even city) with restaurants/the odd thing to do would be great.

Because of the pg factor, it would be best if it?s not too overwhelmingly ?hectic? (ie prob not Morroco!) Am thinking more along the lines of Sicily/Sardinia or the nicer parts of the canaries but having problems finding anything that is not for a whole week or too ?all inclusive?. Anyone got any location/hotel suggestions? Advice much appreciated! Xxx

what about menorca?its not too far on the plane, and not too touristy.it still has evidence of local culture, food, etc, and lovely scenery and beaches.

I went to Sicily last year and loved it. Stayed in Cefalu (very pretty by the sea) and Palmero (some culture, great food and shopping).

You can fly into Cantina (I think) and stay at Taromina which is meant to be v pretty. That's on the other side of the island.

I have to say Mallorca. I absolutely LOVE it. I know that people give it a bad press, but it's a really stunning island, only about an hour and a half's flight. If you want somewhere with things to do, I would recommend the lovely Hotel Portixol in Palma, well it's just outside Palma on the sea but in a very cool harbour area, with little shops and restaurants. It has a fab pool - look it up on the internet. Also in Mallorca is the Hotel Esplendido in Puerto de Soller (about a 20 min cab ride from airport). Puerto de Soller is a gorgeous little town set all around a bay, with cute shops and restaurants and a little open air tram that takes you to the bigger town of Soller which has markets and things. I LOVE both those places.
If you're going really posh, then La Residencia in Deia is very lovely...

Holly both of those look amazing! Which one would you say feels 'buzzier' in the evening - and if you had to pick one over the other, which would you choose? xxx

Oooh, that's such a tough question. I love them both. I recommended the Esplendido to some mates of mine and they managed to conceive their little one (due in May) there so we all call him Esplendido at the moment...

Buzzy? Well, I'll do my best to describe them - Portixol as I said is just outside Palma - you can walk to the cathedral and all the shops along the sea front (it's about 2km) or you can ride a bike - which they lend you - although maybe not whilst 7 months pg! So if you want to be somewhere really buzzy you can go into the centre of Palma by cab in about 5 minutes. The area around the hotel itself (also called Portixol) is absolutely lovely - it has lots of little fisherman's cottages which have been done up and bought up by trendy types -although some of them are still owned by locals! There are loads of little restaurants including some quite trendy ones but there are no nightclubs or anything. it's busy but not many bars etc. Maybe three or four bars.
Palma will have everything you like though including some fab shopping!

The Esplendido feels different, it is in a holiday seaside location and had loads of restaurants dotted along the bay, and lots of little jewellery shops which sell lovely Mallorcan pearl jewellery for dead cheap. there is one nightclub nearby but again it's not exactly Magalluf or anything. If you go there, have the Fet a Soller ice cream - YUM.
Both places are quite chilled, but lovely. If you like football, they also both give you free tickets to see Mallorca FC play...

Does that help? I could go on about them all day. I love them both. The best thing for you to do is to ring them soon though. They are really popular and get booked up dead quickly. The Esplendido has more rooms and you have more chance of getting one. Post again if you have no joy. I love recommending hotels!

I should also say that getting a cheap flight to Mallorca is always dead easy because so many people fly there!

Thanks so much holly - this is sooo helpful! They both sound pretty perfect to be honest, and I'm not planning on nightclubbing! Would you say the Portixool has a better pool? Sorry to bombard you with questions....

A bigger pool certainly. Better? Not sure. Both lovely, with lovely views.
