I have ds 3 and dd 19 months already and want to ttc for no3 when I'm 36 (next year) (Actually I'd like to before then but dh won't have it ) Just interested in how long took the slightly older amongst us to conceive as I know your fertility is supposed to take a nose dive when you get to 35. What is your experience? I got pregnant quite quickly with both of mine but was very scientific about it.

I am aged 36 and am 35 weeks pregnant with dc3. It took no longer to conceive than it did with ds1 (when I was 29) and ds2 (when I was 31).
However, things have been very different this time around. I have been hideously sick, and I am absolutely knackered, which I wasn't with the boys. Perhaps this one is a girl, but I feel that the tiredness is from being 7 years older than I was first time round.
Sorry to moan but I'm still working, haven't slept well, and am really feeling sorry for myself today!

PetitFilou1 · 28/03/2007 13:01

Interesting BadHair........thanks. I was definitely more nauseous with dd but I was knackered with both pregnancies (at 31 and 32). What I am worried about though is my back - which is screwed. If I don't get that fixed in the next year I should probably reconsider! You can moan all you like - give me birth with no pain relief over pregnancy any day of the week!

Im 37 and currently 12 wks pg. With DS1 it took 18m to fall pregnant (though we wernt timing sex or owt like that).

Stopped BF DS last April, was pg again by Sep, unforyunately miscarried in early Nov and was pg again in Jan cycle (only 1 period between m/c and pg), so if anything looks like i am more fertile as i advance in years!!

If you have 2 already tehn i would take that as a ggod sign that everything is ticking over down below.

Good luck with TTC

I am 36 and 34wks pg with DC2. We tried to get pg a couple of years ago with no success at all so we gave up as it was getting too stressful. I went on a diet last year and lost loads of weight. One warm reckless August afternoon (had been using condoms but DH 'forgot' ) and I fell pg! We couldn't believe it after all the trying we had done and the length of time it took us to have DD. I thought I might be pg when on holiday and had hilarious conversation with shocked DH saying 'but we only did it once' like a 14 year old . So I'm not sure about your fertility dropping at 35...

LUCIA22 · 28/03/2007 13:23

I am 36 and 34+5 with my first. Had no problems getting pregnant, in fact we hadnt even started trying so came as a bit of a surprise, all it took was an upset stomach one day!!!
Obviously I havent got any previous pregnancies to compare this one with but dont think I have been any worse than anyone younger. I am getting a lot of backache now and cant walk v far or v fast but I put that down to the fact that I have had back problems in the past and have so far put on about 2stone so its hardly surprising that I am noticing the extra weight!!

WinkyWinkola · 28/03/2007 13:30

I'm 35 and 37+4 pregnant with DD1. Had DS1 when I was 33.

I got pregnant no bother with both children. But I have to say this second time around, I've felt like hell. I don't know if that's because it's a girl this or if I'm that much older or because I have one child to look after on top of nausea, fatigue etc. I can certainly understand why women choose to have children in their twenties because of the sheer physical demands it puts on you.

I'd really like another one after this one and I'm probably tempting fate by assuming I'll conceive again with no problems.

Not everyone's fertility can suddenly drop drastically at 35, surely?

womblingalong · 28/03/2007 13:34

Hi

I am 36 and just about to have no 2 in the next couple of weeks, (due 7/4). For this child, I conceived first time, altho for DD took almost 2 years and had her at 34.

Tutter · 28/03/2007 13:35

yes, me

was 34 when got pg with ds1 - took aaaages

this time, aged 36,took no time at all - more to do with being relaxed about the whole thing ime

PetitFilou1 · 28/03/2007 15:01

You are all cheering me up,thanks!

Winkywinkola tbh all my friends complained of the same when pg with no2 - I sympathise ....(they were all in their early thirties but had an easy first pregnancy) I guess being older doesn't help exactly but knowing that might make you feel better!

PF I'm 42 (just turned honest) and had DD when I was 36, currently pg with no 2 (early days yet tho')both times were a one off carefree (careless) moment. I've had unpratected sex 4 times in my life, once I took the morning after pill, the 2nd I had DD & they 3rd & 4th were Valentines weekend this year! DH thinks he has supersperm!!
Good luck trying.

DivaSkyChick · 28/03/2007 15:21

I am 41 years old, took me three months and that was with getting married in a foreign country (mexico) and moving all our worldy possesions to England within 10 days of each other.. Loads of stress even if it was a joyous time. This will be DD1.

Never threw up but had nausea for a good part of the first trimester. Fatigue is the biggest thing. And six weeks early on of light bleeding.

Having said that, I'm booked for a home birth and my midwives think it's brilliant. Forty is the new thirty, they say, and it's becoming so common that they're all blase about the risk.

blasay? how do you write that without the little thingy over the e? lol

LieselVentouse · 28/03/2007 16:22

I am 36 next week and 23 wks pg. It is harder to conceive the older you get IMHO

Clydesdaleclopper · 28/03/2007 16:32

I'm 36 (will be 37 in a couple of weeks) and I'm 15 weeks pg with my first. I fell pg immediately so don't worry too much about declining fertility.

Good luck with TTC.

Groveregg · 28/03/2007 17:18

I am 23 weeks pg and am going to be 39 next week (Liesel when's your birthday, mine's April 6th).

With ds I was 37 when he was born; we tried for about 6 months and i needed to take lots of vitamin B6 to get my cycle longer to make it possible. That hadn't changed as I got older though - always a short cycle but never realised it would make it impossible to conceive until we actually started trying and I did some research.

This time round, we decided to try, I took the B6 again and within the first month I was pg again (quite scarily at the time).

Good luck!

Hersetta · 28/03/2007 17:26

Ive just turned 37 and am 18 pg with our first. Took 3 cycles TTC before we finally got our timing right. Felt fine all the way through so far. No MS or anything, just feeling a bit more tired than usual.

littleEasterlapin · 28/03/2007 17:29

Was 37 when I had DS, took us 7 months to conceive but DH was at sea for 5 of those

Hopefully will be the same this year!

incy · 28/03/2007 17:31

I am 35 and now 33 weeks. Got pregnant whilst on the pill with DS1 (aged 32) and two took months with this one.

Would agree that I just feel very tired with this pregnancy whilst last time I worked until 40 weeks full time (I was a teacher).

Good luck.

littleEasterlapin · 28/03/2007 17:32

incy, your DS1 is 32!!!!!

incy · 28/03/2007 17:35

LOL - Pregnancy brain !!! I was 32.

I think.

iris66 · 28/03/2007 17:39

divaskychick - totally agree about 40 being the new 30

petitfilou - I had DD at 21 (after over a year of trying)
DS at 39 (4 months of trying) 40 now and 8 wks pg with No3 (didn't try - only did it once without anything !) Good Luck !!

Miaou · 28/03/2007 18:36

I'm 35 and pg with no.4, which took about 10 months to conceive (previous three were conceived in one month, one month and 3 months). However - I was b/f for the first 7 months of ttc no. 4, so that skews the real figures really! I would say my fertility hasn't declined.

Re the feeling worse in pregnancy - I definitely suffered more in the first half of this one than I ever did in my other three - but am now 23 weeks and starting to feel better now so fingers crossed I'll continue to be ok.

Daisybump · 28/03/2007 18:50

Hi Petitfilou.....I'm 38 and 29 wks pg with No. 2. i have a DS of 5. I had two mc six months apart before coceiving this one six mo. late. Each time was either first or second month of trying, but then I did fall pg first time of trying with DS. Don't know about the statistics, as I seem to turning them upside down esp as DH and I were both smokers at the time. i think it depends on how fertile you are generally...if you conceived easily before, then you should do again IMO. good Luck

willywonkasEgghunt · 28/03/2007 18:50

I'm 35 and 20wks pg and took no longer to conceive than before. That said, we were at it like rabbits

toadstool · 28/03/2007 19:16

I'm 38 and I've conceived twice now within 10 months (aged 37) by using the Persona kit. I found leaving it to nature wasn't working at all. Last year, I got PG on the first month I used the kit (mc at 11 wks), this year on the second month. So I'd say it wasn't a waste of money at all. And no, we weren't at it like rabbits - it was literally a question of doing it on the right day.

TuttiFrutti · 28/03/2007 19:20

I conceived at 37 and 39 with no problems, on first attempt both times. I think it's so variable - some women have unexplained infertility in their twenties, and there are other older women like me who conceive easily well into their late thirties or early forties.
