Waters or wee?

37 weeks now and woke up this morning with a small wet patch underneath me. I did have a full bladder when I woke too.
Called the midwife and she said it's more likely urine and to monitor over the next hour, but I forgot to ask how much water is released when it's your waters breaking? On a white sheet it was colourless which again indicates urine, but is there anything else I need to be aware of incase? DH is away for the week and am now panicking that it could be arrival of baby whilst he's away!!

When mine broke it was unmistakable, it was like a bloody waterfall in the middle of the street, but I know some people can leak rather than gush. Hope that helps!

I've had this in my pregnancies. The midwife told me to put on a thick pad and if it's not soaked through it's unlikely to be waters. Watery discharge is also common in pregnancy. But I think yours sounds like wee.

MissBax · 04/08/2017 11:07

Thanks all - yes she asked me to wear a pad for an hour and see if more drips through - oh the joys of pregnancy. Dignity, I'll hopefully see you again soon!

Usually once you're waters go they keep trickling. As long as it's clear there's no need to worry, maybe labour will start later :)

I was confused as to whether my waters were breaking or whether pressure on my bladder had caused an accident. However, when I soaked through two maternity pads and two pairs of jeans in an hour, the mystery was solved. Amniotic fluid also has a very distinctive smell... ugh. Don't worry, your dignity will come back in a few years...!

Number 1 child just like you described (but then took 36 hours before DD1 was born). Number 2 child with a woosh, all over the midwives shoes, very late in a long labor and DD2 born 25 mins later.

good luck xx

Stood up and I knew immediately. Just water everywhere, and it keeps coming. I had been worried for a few days about discharge, so I think there was some kind of slow leak, then the lot went. I was only 33 weeks, and not in labour so they didn't try to deliver for as long as possibe, but I went into hospital for monitoring. Had the baby 3 days later after infection was identified in my blood. Healthy boy, just a bit small!

Dc1 waters broke by mw, it felt like wetting yourself I imagine, warm, contractions intensified and dd was born shortly after.
Dc2 waters went in the pool, it felt like peeing in water, again ds was born very shortly after.
Dc3 waters went after few hours of very mild contractions, I had 2 internal pops, I thought it was gas or something, but waters came down, it was very clear that the waters went and they also smell, a bit bleachy. Dd was born about 14 hours later.

BoredOnMatLeave · 06/08/2017 16:25

I felt them go during a contraction. It's hard to describe but i was led down and felt a pop. I managed to waddle legs crossed to the bathroom. Stood in front of the toilet (but not over it as i was in labour craziness) and it gushed onto the floor. It continued to trickle until DD was born 12 hours later.

Cagliostro · 06/08/2017 16:28

Never felt any waters going at all with DC1 - found out at late scan I had low fluid so no idea if I'd been leaking or if there just wasn't enough in the first place IYSWIM.

With DC2 it was absolutely unmistakable - flooded the floor - but then I had had them broken manually anyway.

Mine broke while I was having a contraction and throwing up at the same time. It was spectacular. I read in one book that if it smells slightly like ammonia, it's wee, if it smells sweet it's your waters breaking

I was in bed asleep but feekt a pop , water broke and soaked pads ,trousers ,car , hospital corridor ,,,

BoffinMum · 07/08/2017 07:00

Mine leaked a bit with the first one, DC2 and DC3 were all but born in a caul, then with DC4 there was a massive clunk as his head engaged and waters absolutely everywhere. I had been asleep in bed when he decided to do this, waking up with a holy fuck moment. The remaining waters leaked over the next 48 hours while I pottered about waiting for labour to start.
