Can any women who have herpes let me know if they have gave birth successfully and the herpes wasn't a problem. Nearly 37 weeks pregnant and have had herpes for four years. I'm absolutely petrified. I want to enjoy the last few weeks but im so so scared I'm going to pass this on to him. I was fine through out the pregnancy but now the due date is drawing closer I could cry I'm so scared. I keep reading these horror stories online and getting myself so worked up! Please help 🙁

I was completely fine. Took acicloyvir (sorry can't spell it) for a few weeks before birth as I have had regular outbreaks in the past. Wasn't mentioned again 😀 In fact I think I had to keep bringing it up at apppintments as they were so unworried about it!

I told my midwife about it at my first appointment at 10 weeks and she was so unbothered and nobody has mentioned it since to me.... like not a mention. I'm currently 37 weeks and taking acyclovir. I know the risk is so small but it could result in the baby being blind or even dying how could I ever forgive myself if that happened. I had quite a lot of outbreaks at beginning of pregnancy but none in around 16 weeks.

I'd had it for 15 years when I was pregnant. The consultant didn't put me on anciclovir at all, it was in my notes that the midwife had to check fo a flare up when in labour and if any signs of sores i was to have an emcs. I knew myself on the day that I wasn't having a flare up, as have always beem aware quite quickly, but told her to check just in case. All was fine, I was even on the midwife led unit to give birth and my DD is now 2 :) hope that helps.

Hi, I commented on your other thread but just to say have a look here herpes.org.uk/frequently-asked-questions/#35 then stop googling! And please chat to your midwife so you can get some RL support. This is honestly not something you need to worry about. (Ps I had a water birth in a midwife led unit not attached to a hospital. I.e. They had no concerns at all about my delivery despite me having HSV.)

Thanks kiwi I know I'm a paranoid mess!!! When you went in to labour did the midwifes check you over, my mum is going to be in the room and does not have a clue about the herpes and I don't want her too! X

If anybody could, could they talk me through what happens when you actually get to the hospital. I am planning on having my mum in the room and she obviously doesn't know my situatuon and I don't want her to know. I want it to be very low key.

Hi again. It was on my notes but I don't remember midwife checking. As PP said I was sure I wasn't having a flare so I didn't mention it. I'm sure you could ask for your notes to state that you'd like to be checked for sores when they do an internal for example, but you don't want it to be discussed. Just discuss this in advance with your midwife-you can always call them privately if your mum comes to appointments. Hope this helps Smile
