Hi everyone - this is my first post here - yay!

I just found out that I am 5 weeks pregnant and will be going to visit my GP today.

I wanted to know what you lovely ladies did when you where pregnant to stay fit and limit the pregnancy weight (yours not baby's) during your pregnancy.

I am engaged and we are planning a small ceremony in November so would ideally like to announce it after and keep myself looking trim! - I will be 4/5 months by then - is this realistic?

I also have lympodema in my legs which means they swell up quite bad due to water retention. I'm worried that normal swelling of the legs during pregnancy will add to this!

Any ideas, tips or experiences are very welcome :)

I had really good intentions of staying fit throughout my pregnancy from the beginning but i haven't really stuck to
It! I would recommend a healthy diet and whatever exercise your body allows you to do but don't put any pressure on yourself. I occasionally do pregnancy yoga which is good. The weight has piled on me but everyone is different. Just relax and enjoy 😊

I definitely could have gotten away with keeping it quiet until past 4/5 months, I'm 24+4 now and only starting to show, got away with it longer on first pregnancy as it was winter, thick clothes! Have you a dress chosen? The shape of it would matter.

I eat healthy as much as possible, drink loads of water, and I do yoga, swimming and walking as much as I can. Not been doing much recently due to work and pelvic pain but stretching/keeping moving helps everything.

I think it's mainly down to genetics. I was lucky not to get morning sickness, so I carried on with my usual life. I cycled to work every day throughout my pregnancy and swam and ran a lot. I put on

I was really active before pregnancy. I had. I had no sickness but was exhausted in the first trimester so did little exercise. I got married at 10 weeks, I hadn't put on any weight (probably due to lack of booze) but my waist got a little thicker so my dress was a bit snug! I've been far more active in my second trimester (currently 24+5) so I feel fit and healthy but have got bigger & im obviously pregnant (my bump is smaller than others in my Pilates & yoga class though).
Basically, everyone is different. Do what you can, eat when you need but try & keep it healthy, and chose a dress that is flexible on your bump size as you can't control that bit!

Oh, also congratulations on your baby & wedding! You'll have an amazing day, whatever size you are Grin

Realised I didn't give you any specifics... I kept doing yoga & Pilates & switched to pregnancy classes when necessary. I only just stopped running, because I'm too out of breath, but took it easy & walked/jogged until last week. I go swimming and walk a lot. I used to cycle to work but through central London & was too scared after I got pregnant so stopped that soon after finding out.

Congrats on your pregnancy! With DS I kept up walking 5 miles a day till the day before delivery, along with sensible eating. Was lucky and didn't have any cravings. I only put on 12lb. At 24 weeks with DD I've only put on 2lb, so probs not going to gain much with this pregnancy later. However, I did lose about another 10lb after DS was born and ended up quite underweight - probs down to exclusively breastfeeding and then needing to avoid dairy as he had an allergy. So putting on minimal weight has it's disadvantages.

I'm 21wks and have only put on 6lbs but have a HUGE bump. There's no way I could have hidden it much past 14/15wks

MissBax · 02/08/2017 13:27

I had grand plans to eat really well and exercise, but I haven't. I've not weighed myself in a while now but everyone comments that I've only grown a bump and not buy on weight anywhere else. I've not changed anything I was doing before I was pregnant though - loads of people say they get more hungry but I haven't at all so just eating exactly as I did before hand, no more no less, and the same with exercise - no more no less.
Just FYI - I found 4/5 months to be the most self conscious body wise as it's not totally obvious you're pregnant yet and just look abit bigger and bloated, so just be aware so you're not disappointed if that's the same for you.

hungryhass · 03/08/2017 10:40

Thanks very much ladies! I have started walking to work when I get off the train instead of taking the bus - this is like a 20 minute walk (at my pace)! And I will do the same on the way home. I was on a strict diet before I fond out I was pregnant so now I really have to watch what I eat!

Hi there! I've managed to remain pretty fit and active so far (now 26 weeks). I was a runner before getting pregnant and I've managed to keep that up several times a week, although at about 21 weeks I switched to alternating fast walking and running during my sessions as I was starting to feel uncomfortable. I also swim once a week and do a few sessions of pregnancy yoga each week using Tara Lee's DVD. In terms of weight gain I have gained 8kg so far. I was a healthy BMI to start with (23) so I'm okay with this level of gain at this stage. My bump is fairly big but the rest of me has remained pretty toned so far. As far as keeping your pregnancy under wraps until 4/5 months, there was no way I could have done this. I was really showing by about 15 weeks and this is pregnancy number 1!! I have a short torso so I think this is why I showed so early. And congrats on your pregnancy btw Flowers

Sasmac2017 · 05/08/2017 09:35

@hungryhass - I have exercised (moderately, not leisurely) the whole way through, 5-6x a week, eaten very well and still gained about 41 pounds at 38 weeks! I think some people just gain more than others. I gained 85lbs with my first. I was a total whale (did lose it all in about 5 months). I have stressed over it so much this time, it's actually taken my enjoyment from pregnancy. In saying that, I realise I am a bit bigger all over I definitely don't look fat (started 135lbs at 5'7). I think things aren't always within our co trol, but do keep it up as will be easier for us after x
