Hi. I know I'm being daft but I had a voicemail today from the screening midwife after my blood tests at my booking appointment.

She said 'I'd like to talk to you about your blood test results, nothing to worry about but please call back tomorrow morning'.

So I'm of course worrying. Why is she calling me? I know I don't have any STDs so what is wrong? Sad

Sorry - I'm just feeling really insecure with this second pregnancy - I'm fat and old and really scared.

I had this with one of my blood tests when I was pregnant. Something to do with white blood cell count? My midwife thought I might be showing signs of infection so wanted the GP to check my urine etc. All was fine, they put it down to me having a slight cold. Don't panic, it's probably nothing to worry about! X

RooKangaroo · 01/08/2017 21:56

I had almost the exact same message.

When I called back (in a panic), it turned out they'd lost some of my blood samples and so the results were incomplete. I had to go back to the hospital and give more blood Hmm.

Massive pain, but not a big deal in the end. Hope yours is a similarly trivial thing.

Could also be low iron levels?

Moanyoldcow · 01/08/2017 21:58

Oh, I do have a strange Haemoglobin type - maybe it's that? I assumed that they would have that in my notes but maybe not?

I don't think my midwives had any information other than what I told them, so could well be that Smile

Gothbaby · 01/08/2017 23:56

i had voicemails left before, one was about the R-Negative blood type and another was about low iron! x

ladybunnikins · 02/08/2017 07:21

I had a voicemail from screening which turned out to be about my downs syndrome screening coming back as high risk but I don't think they said, "Nothing to worry about" so hopefully it isn't that. (Baby doesn't have DS after further tests).

ladybunnikins · 02/08/2017 07:25

Sorry, just seen it was after your booking appt, my DS screening blood tests were a few weeks later at the dating scan. Hopefully it will be about the haemoglobin. Do you have sickle cell or thalassemia trait? They would phone about that because they would want to test the partner as well if you have it.

Topsyloulou · 02/08/2017 08:09

I had a similar voicemail after my booking in bloods & was in a panic until I could get hold of the midwife. One of my samples didn't have enough in the tube to test so had to go in & have a repeat blood test & nothing to worry about. Hope you manage to get hold of the mw early today & it is nothing to worry about.

Moanyoldcow · 02/08/2017 08:09

I have haemaglobin C trait but they knew about it last time and I just assumed that since it's my second baby they'd have realised it was all ok... fingers crossed they'll call me back soon as I've left them a message this morning.

Thank you everyone for your replies.

I had this, and it's just that I was slightly anaemic. Nothing serious to worry about.

Ceebs85 · 02/08/2017 08:13

Mine showed 1:7 downs risk but the message sounded urgent and insisted I call back ASAP.

If she's said nothing to worry about, it'll be something relatively minor xx

Fairy45 · 02/08/2017 08:27

Could be to repeat as my platelets came back low but she said often they clump together so they repeated and all was fine

I got hold of them - it was about my haemaglobin c trait. I was actually quite irritated because this is my second baby with the same partner at the same hospital and the original diagnoses was made at the same hospital too. It seems to me there is a ridiculous lack of joined up information given that I obviously would have had this all checked during the first pregnancy. Why don't they have those details? It seems mad to me that they don't amalgamate the notes of prior pregnancies or that they can't see my patient details showing this is something that I have?

Anyway, all appears to be fine so I'll just carry on as before.

Glad it's nothing to worry about.

Good luck with the pregnancy! x
