metoclopramide - any experiences?

So I'm 10 weeks pregnant, second pregnancy, really sick in afternoon and evenings as per last pregnancy. Got prescribed cyclizine a couple of weeks ago which did nothing. Went back today and got prescribed metoclopramide. However in reading up on it and talking to pharmacist, you're only supposed to take it for a max of 5 days due to the side effects... so it seems pointless as even if it works, I can't take it for the next 4 weeks that I'll need it, and the side effects do scare me... i know that most drugs have scary lists but are generally ok, but given the advice from nice being only take for 5 days, it seems quite possible to have them...

Just wondered if anyone had taken it, what your experience was?

I have pick up the tablets but not sure I want to take them. And a bit grumpy that the doctor prescribed this one and didn't talk to me re side effects and limited time of taking it.

I've used it in small animals to aid digestion/speed up the process! I've heard in humans it can cause constipation and shouldn't be used long term my doctor was going to prescribe it to me but I had metronidazole instead!

The side effect with metaclopramide is that long term use can cause twitches in the mother, not that there's a risk to the baby. I agree though, it does seem a bit pointless. I haven't personally taken that one but had about everything else!

Your other options are

Promthezine (an antihistamine like cyclizine, but sometimes one works where the other doesn't)

Proclopramide (Stemitil)

Ondansetron. GPs can be reluctant to prescribe this but if nothing else is helping, this is a very effective drug.

It doesn't sound like your at the stage of needing steroids
