Morning!
I am suffering on a morning with diarrhoea (sorry tmi) and sometimes it last all day. Is this a pregnancy thing (I'm 6 weeks 2 days)? I thought perhaps I've developed a food intolerance? Can this happen?
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks!!

Maybe, when you're pregnant you're more susceptible to viruses and whatnot as well. I remember have a pretty brutal case of Norovirus when I was pregnant that took me out for about 10 days.

Is it possible you just ate something... off?

mummabubs · 31/07/2017 07:16

Poor you OP. Have to say my stomach was all over the place in the first trimester (I think from what I read all the hormonal changes at this stage can wreak havoc with your digestive system). Hope it improves!

Foggymist · 31/07/2017 07:21

I had norovirus twice while pregnant but I also seem to lean more towards diarrhoea than constipation the whole way through all trimesters unless I eat badly. Doubt it's a food intolerance, just the joys of pregnancy!

The morning sickness (all day) is bad enough without having to keep running to the loo! Trying cutting out wheat today to see if it helps.

I had an awful upset stomach for the first trimester in my first pregnancy. Couldn't keep anything in my stomach. Something like tums might help. Mine settled down in my second trimester. Good luck, it's really grim isn't it!

I feel your pain, I had constant runs throughout my first trimester. Now I'm 15 weeks & I've had the opposite problem for the last week Hmm not sure which is preferable lol

Foggymist · 31/07/2017 08:57

I like to look at the bright side that diarrhoea doesn't cause piles like constipation can!

owltrousers · 31/07/2017 13:25

I was having this from weeks 5-10 and then it suddenly clicked that it was always after I'd had a morning cup of tea. It was the milk! I'm not usually lactose intolerant but apparently it can commonly occur in pregnancy. Now avoiding milk, ice cream and yoghurt and I'm fine - cheese seems to be ok weirdly.

So could some kind of intolerance if you are able to spot a pattern to it.

I have IBS and basically it's a disaster area. Either i don't go and it's all very hard or it just all comes out at once. I did blame two decaf coffees yesterday for my amazing toiletry display however. The worst is I can't face vegetables which i know will make it all better!

Can we have anything with fibre in it actually does anyone know? Just thinking that might help with both types of toilet issus.....?

Foggymist · 31/07/2017 16:12

Well my diet is high in fibre and I definitely never get constipated, and I'd take the alternative over constipation any day!

Cat2991 · 31/07/2017 16:34

Having the runs is normal during pregnancy due to the hormone changes! I go through periods of it awfully for like 4 days straight !

SheSaidHeSaid · 31/07/2017 16:37

From what I've heard you either get the runs or constipation.

Me, I get both.... go figure!

FruitBadger · 31/07/2017 16:38

I had this during my first and again with my 2nd pregnancy, it did / has settled down as the pregnancies progressed (now 18 weeks with DC2) but I just put it down to hormones throwing my system out a bit. On the plus side, as a PP said, no problems with piles or constipation! Wink

CL1982 · 31/07/2017 16:39

@foggmist my issue is i never know which one i'm going to get Shock
