Overdue - no signs of labour

5 days overdue with my first, no signs whatsoever! Just wondering how yours started? If it's possible to go from 'nothing' to labour quickly?

Not one single braxton hick, loss of mucus plug, twinge, backache or even a feeling something is happening or about to.. I really shouldn't moan as I have had it very easy compared to some for which I'm very grateful, I just feel like it isn't going to happen!

Anyone in the same boat as me?

Dc1 I was 2 days over, figured I was in line for the induction after 2 weeks so went on a njght out. Went into labour 4am, baby born 24 hours later. No show. No waters. No BH. No indication.

Dc2 was a world away from that but yeah, I am one example of nothing to something in a v.short space of time.

If you can, have sex tonight. That may swing jt.

Oysterbabe · 30/07/2017 21:51

My waters broke in the night and baby arrived later that day. Not one sign before the waters breaking. Things can change quickly.

Callamia · 30/07/2017 21:58

First time, I was 10 days overdue before anything happened. I'd lost a tiny amount of plug, and then a bit more after a sweep. Waters broke (after second sweep), and labour started a few hours later.

This time, nothing at all, no sign of plug, barely any BH, baby not really engaged; I thought I'd go well overdue again. Waters broke, labour started a bit later.

So there is hope! Thank you ladies. Suppose I just thought I would know on some level, but honestly if it wasn't for the bump I wouldn't know I was pregnant let alone about to give birth.

At 2 days overdue my midwife was planning a sweep but said she wouldn't bother as the head wasn't engaged and I was nowhere near. That was a Wednesday. On Friday night my contractions started with a bang and DS was born 21 hours later (5 days overdue). Just try to relax, it isn't far away!

needsomesunshineandwine · 30/07/2017 23:09

1st I was 4 days overdue, I had contractions on off on lead up then waters broke next day.

2nd I was 14 days overdue, nothing, no niggles or pains and had to be induced and baby born in sac.

Good luck op 🙂

RedPandaMama · 31/07/2017 00:01

Reading this gives me hope! I'm 39+5 and despite feeling huge and frumpy and exhausted, in terms of actual labour symptoms I have none yet, and I'm so uncomfortable I'm desperate to get her out! Hopefully my waters will break and things will kick off soonish. Update us if anything happens OP!

AreWeThereYet000 · 31/07/2017 00:10

I went 4 days overdue went to bed with no signs that anything was going to happen, woke up at 4am with really intense pains, went to the loo thinking I may possibly need a poo and lost my plug, baby was born at 8.49am so really quick!

Spogget · 31/07/2017 00:24

I was due on the 25th and despite what I thought were positive signs (4 weeks of uncomfortable BH every night, loss of plug) I don't think baby is coming any time soon. At least not of his own accord - I'm being induced on Tuesday. Sad

With my first i had no warning at all, my waters broke, then contractions started and he was born 48 hours later.

Bebopaloula · 31/07/2017 00:35

I was 40 +13 before I went into labour and like you, OP, not a single sign until the last minute. She's now 4 weeks 😍
Make the most of the time you have. Got get ur nails done, have that extra haircut. Believe me, when your little bundle arrives - you don't have a second!
Very best of luck to you 😘😘😘

I'm a mum of 3 and my waters have always had to be broken by the midwives as each time I got to 10cm with them fully in tact. I've never had to movie moment of waters breaking.

I've never had the other signs like losing the mucus plug. With #1 and #2 I went for a pee in the middle of the night and realized that I might be in labour when I was in too much pain to get off the loo. I was holding them 6 hours later. With #3 I was walking across the B&Q car park and felt a sudden twinge. I was holding him 30 mins later.

Longdistance · 31/07/2017 01:14

First was 3 days early. No real sign, but felt anxious before the contractions.

Dd2 was 2 days late. I had the major shits with her. I saw a midwife on the due date, who said she wasn't going to do anything as having the squits was a sign in its self.

beingsunny · 31/07/2017 03:05

I went five days over, woke up at 11pm to first contraction, stood up and waters broke over the bedroom carpet, the boy arrived at 4.45am

Quick and painless Grin

JellyBert · 31/07/2017 03:37

Solidarity, I'm 4 days overdue with DC2 and thoroughly fed up. Went into labour at 40+8 (born at 40+10) last time so I'm hoping it will start naturally in a day or two!

BifsWif · 31/07/2017 03:41

First was a week early, second was 5 days overdue.

No signs of labour with my second, woke up at 6am and my waters broke on the way to the bathroom. Baby born later the same day. It can change very quickly.

Beetie1 · 31/07/2017 10:11

I'm currently 8 days over with dc2 and feel like labour will never happen Sad

Having a sweep later today so hopefully that will change things!

tatree · 31/07/2017 10:36

Good luck Beetie!

Thank you everyone for sharing your stories it's comforting knowing that it can start fairly suddenly.

Got what I imagine is common nerves before first labour and had hoped I wouldn't need to be induced! I don't know why but I prefer the idea of it starting naturally, and it seems that from the stories I've been told (everyone loves sharing their horror birth stories!) induction has a greater chance of intervention. No idea if there is any truth in that and I don't want to scare myself with statistics but it would be lovely if it just.. happened!

How did the sweep go Beetie? My midwife offered me one at any point, I just have to call and book in but I don't know whether to wait a little longer.
