Not sure what to expect at early scan

Due to pcos... have only a vague idea of how far along i am...best guess is between 5.5 and 7 weeks.

With those dates in mind, what should/shouldn't i be expecting to see on my scan tomorrow?

Super nervous!

Just wanted to pop by and say good luck op! Hope it goes okay :)

Sienna9522 · 30/07/2017 21:35

I had an early scan at 7 weeks. It was private not NHS. I've attached the pic. I can't remember everything but we was told what her hear rate was, given measurements and whether the pregnancy was likely to be viable.

Oh god I don't know what I'm even looking at! Thanks though!!!

How do they decide if its viable?

Another one from 7 weeks. Jelly baby looking thing is the baby: hula hoop is the yolk sac. We also got to see the heart beating like PP.

Following this post Smile we have one booked for Friday when I'll be 6+2. They seemed happy to book me in for this date but now I'm worrying we won't see or hear anything as it's on the early side?

Lulu2515 · 30/07/2017 22:03

I think you're supposed to see a heartbeat from 6 weeks are you?

What will they do if they don't see a heartbeat yet? Do you think they'll see me again?

Thank you for sharing your pics

Are your photos from an internal or external scan ladies? I assume they get a better picture if it's internal?

ew1990 · 30/07/2017 23:04

Mine was from internal, couldn't see anything external as bowel was In the way, apparently I was very gassy Confused

SheSaidHeSaid · 30/07/2017 23:07

I had an abdominal scan at 6+2 and another at 7+1.

Saw a heartbeat on both and each time given a rough estimated due date plus told whether it looked ok, just one Baby, not ectopic etc.

Good luck!

ohdearymeno · 30/07/2017 23:11

Mine was abdominal not internal. Interestingly, I've had internal scans before due to PCOS and have always been told that they can only see one of my Fallopian tubes. The scan this photo is from was to check that pregnancy wasn't ectopic and when I mentioned that there is always a problem seeing both tubes, the sonographer said she could see them as clear as day and that my reproductive system was just closer to the surface of the skin that other people. I thought that was fascinating!

Sienna9522 · 30/07/2017 23:26

Mine was external. Very full bladder. If they don't see a heart beat they will probably book you in for another scan as it's on the very early side so don't worry. They take other factors into consideration too, such as measurements for dates etc.

Sienna9522 · 30/07/2017 23:43

From the top of my head from the research I did when pregnant; at 6 weeks a gestation sac with a yolk sac developing in your uterus should be seen and possibly a heartbeat. If a heartbeat can't be seen at this stage it's usually because it's too early. If it can, chances of mc decrease to 10% (don't quote me on that). These factors usually determine viability.

At 7 weeks a heartbeat should be seen and the early separation of the embryo from the yolk sac. They will also measure Crown Rump Length, and work out how many weeks and days preganant you are based on this measurement. If a heartbeat is present at this point I think the risk of mc decreases to 5% and reduces further to 2% if a heartbeat is present at 8 weeks.(again don't quote me).

Hazandduck · 31/07/2017 07:02

@Sienna I think you are right, if a heartbeat is seen, and your dates match up with what is on the scan.
Good luck with the scan OP :)

Nainer123 · 31/07/2017 07:15

I went for a few early scans due to bleeding. You won't really see much tbh. Little jelly bean looking thing, and you may or may not see a little heart beat. I didn't see my baby's heart beat until 7+2. The heart beat is a tiny little flicker in the screen, best thing I've ever seen.
Hope all goes well!

Lulu2515 · 31/07/2017 12:01

Had scan. They could see yolk sac and fetal pole. She measured crl as 3.9mm and estimated i was 6 weeks.
She said seemed ok but there was no heartbeat yet. She didn't seem overly concerned about that and just said it was too early. Have to go back next week .... another week of waiting and worrying!

lulu congratulations! I'm sure everything will be fine, try and distract yourself in the mean time. I know it's easier said than done Flowers
