Been discussing symptoms with a friend as neither of us have many yet - i am six weeks she is eight - particularly sickness and nausea.

Her midwife said 25% of women don't get any at all so i'm curious, which of you had sickness, nausea, both or none? and if you had it when did it start?

I was sick from week 5 until delivery. I think I had undiagnosed HG to be honest. I lay in bed most days and in my darkest moments contemplated having an abortion. I'm so glad I have my son but I don't ever want to be pregnant again.

I had both. All the way through each pregnancy. It started early both times - it was the nausea which prompted me to do a home test in fact. I had several spells in hospital on a drip each time, amounting to about three months out of each pregnancy. It was diagnosed as extreme hyper emesis and was supremely unpleasant. With both DC, the first day I didn't wake up with nausea followed by sickness, was the day they were born.

I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy and ultimately, it was the reason why we didn't go on to have a third child.

@quercusquercus you were right - I went for lunch today, started randomly gagging and retching on the walk back [great for all the strangers around me, I got some very funny looks] and had to run to the loo to throw up a tiny bit when I got in. Now feeling quite rough although no longer feeling sick which is good.

I think those of you who suffered HG the first time round and went on to have another are made of seriously stern stuff!

Whyhasthe I couldn't agree more! I feel like it should be something they are able to put on their CV. I hope you're feel better soon.

I was sick from a few days before my positive test.
I was very sick - up to twenty times a day. Constant, debilitating churning nausea and dizziness.
It stopped , to a degree, when my son was born, BUT now I get the same symptoms every month post ovulation.

I've just found out I'm pregnant again (although I may be losing it, sigh) and I've been throwing up since a few days after dtd.

Zero sympathy from medical profession. Apparently sickness is normal.

Yes @fantastictwistsand exactly!

@anatidae that is terrible, i can't believe you didn't get better support. Sorry to hear you think you are losing it, I really really hope that's not the case for you x

Only mild nausea in the mornings between 6-16 weeks. Worse if I drink tea.

Nothing with my first. Lovely pregnancy. Second one was very different. Same sex so I think it's fairly random who gets it and why. I was painfully nauseous for around 14 weeks. I even got Stemetil tablets from the doc for it (only popped two out of fear and they didn't really help anyway).

Never actually sick just a thick fog of nausea. I lost a good stone and a half and existed on lucozade and andrews powders.

Thank god it lifted in the second trimester and didn't return unless, weirdly I was in a supermarket with flourescent lights - the lighting would trigger the nausea. Never did figure that out!

Anatidae · 01/08/2017 16:08

Flickering lights are a common trigger for nausea and migraine :(

Never with any of my pregnancies, don't think my body likes to part with anything 😂
