Did you have sickness nausea with pregnancy?

Been discussing symptoms with a friend as neither of us have many yet - i am six weeks she is eight - particularly sickness and nausea.

Her midwife said 25% of women don't get any at all so i'm curious, which of you had sickness, nausea, both or none? and if you had it when did it start?

Hardly any nausea at all until the last two weeks when I started being sick (bit geometrically challenging when you're that big!). Apparently it's not uncommon as you get another hormone change.

upinmygrill · 30/07/2017 22:12

First pregnancy which ended in mmc no sickness at all, second awful sickness and dry retching from 6-13 weeks (girl), third from the morning after I conceived until 14 weeks nausea, vomiting, retching, constantly. My 2 year old used to pat me on the back and make puking noises in sympathy when I had my head over the sink.

Terrible nausea with all three until second trimester. Munched ginger biscuits and found the travel sickness wristbands took the edge off as well.

JassyRadlett · 30/07/2017 22:18

I'm another who will never do pregnancy again because of the sickness and the long term impact of it. Was quite bad with DS1 but wasn't often actually sick after the first tri; with DS2 I was being sick from 3weeks +3 until the day he was born.

I think my finest hour was being sick into the dishwasher. Blush

I had at most, 3 random days of feeling "off". Queasy at the very most. Not sick once, no ongoing nausea. I'm 20weeks tomorrow. The lack of symptoms was anxiety inducing at times.

Nope not really maybe felt sick twice

BikeRunSki · 30/07/2017 22:29

At 6 weeks I remember telling my sister how surprised I was at how well I felt.
At 7 weeks I couldn't move, eat or drink without throwing up.
At 8 weeks I was in hospital being rehydrated and on IV antisickness drugs. Where I pretty much stayed for 2 months.

Don't count your chickens....

Pinkkahori · 30/07/2017 22:33

Morning, noon and night nausea and copious vomiting in first pregnancy leading to several hospital stays, calmed a little from 20-30 weeks but never totally went and returned strongly towards the ends.
In my second pregnancy nausea and constant vomited dehydration and weight loss from 6-18 weeks and then it stopped completely until about 38 weeks when I went back to vomiting every morning like clockwork.

At 6 weeks the nausea and sickness started and didn't stop until weeks 14-16. I was surprised to find out a lot of people aren't actually sick.

GrumpyGoose · 30/07/2017 22:37

Vomiting near daily for about 7 weeks from week 7 😒 was so glad when that was done.

Tilapia · 30/07/2017 22:37

Mine got worse with every pregnancy!
DC1: mild nausea
DC2: retching
DC3: vomiting

Poppyscot87 · 30/07/2017 22:41

Horrendous nausea from week 5 and knackered. Never actually been sick. Really hoping it passes soon (11weeks currently).

millsbynight · 30/07/2017 22:52

Hyperemesis with DS till about 28ish weeks but felt like the entire time! Had to stop work altogether as couldn't function like a normal human. Threw up on planes, car journeys, the tube, threw up every time I went in to the kitchen, threw up almost every morning without fail.

Hyperemesis including a one night stay in hospital on a drip for current pregnancy but managed to get away with that stopping after first trimester. Still quite averse to some smells, particularly anything that's cooking - BBQs, something cooking in the oven, the bakery section in the shops.. all will make me instantly nauseous.

Lemondrop99 · 30/07/2017 23:26

Yep. Started at 5+4, still suffering at 31 weeks. Was signed off for 5 weeks at the beginning, on medication until 25 weeks. Been so bad, I'm questioning whether I'd go through this again.

Sangriasally86 · 31/07/2017 00:38

My sickness started around 7 weeks and didn't improve until about 21 weeks, and even then it didn't get completely better, just became a bit more manageable. Sadly, nausea came back with a vengeance at 28 weeks. I'm 34 weeks now and have just had to accept that i probably won't feel any better until I've given birth now. I sometimes feel like the nausea is worse than being sick, it really is horrendous. Sad

ExplodedCloud · 31/07/2017 00:47

Nothing at all. Didn't go off any food. Didn't feel even a tiny bit sick in any of my pregnancies. My poor mum was sick all day, every day for the first 4 months of all hers and she couldn't believe how unaffected I was!
I did develop super smell though. I could detect tiny smells through multiple closed doors Confused

Shemozzle · 31/07/2017 00:50

Vomiting with all three. My first it started before 6 weeks and started to slowly go away from 12 weeks. Still had random waves of nausea and occasional vomiting all the way through. Second it started at 6 weeks was extreme and by 10 weeks I was sick 20 times in one day and then it stopped dead over night. Then my third it didn't start until 8 weeks mildly, picked up gradually and got really bad, I lost a lot of weight over that pregnancy from vomiting and lack of appetite. The nausea did go but it was more gradual than the previous. All three of them
I had an extremely strong gag reflex all the way through and would retch all the time even when the severe sickness had gone. Mine were girl, girl, boy. Apparently HCG takes longer to build up with boys, it's the only proven (but not consistent) different pregnancy symptom. I was convinced i wasn't going to have morning sickness or she the pregnancy wasn't viable when I stil wasn't sick at 8 weeks, but it started a few days later.

oldlaundbooth · 31/07/2017 01:13

Didn't have anything at six weeks with either pregnancy.

It kicked in around 10 weeks and was awful, but stopped at 3 months.

God I felt terrible! Like a permanent hangover.

whyhastherumgone · 31/07/2017 11:00

Maybe i shouldn't bank on not getting sickness just yet then!

Hi @whyhastherumgone congrats on your pregnancy! Hope all is going well.

For me (during my first pregnancy) after about 8-10 weeks I had slight nausea which then progressed into severe HG morning, noon and night!Sad Like other pp said I too was also vomiting in the street, 2 minutes after meals (even simple, plain ones) and all through towards the 7 month mark vomiting water and acid ShockConfused (sorry if tmi)

I had lost a lot of weight (lighter than I was pre-pregnancy), slept with a bucket near my bed and couldn't move much due to lack of energy most days and most smells would set me off and start the heaving, lol those were some fun days (months)

After a stint in hospital not being able to cope with just being handed tablets (due to not holding down anything) I dragged myself to a & e admitted with dehydration.. My son was not affected in this at all which had made it worth it in the end - he's a cheeky but kind five year old now

Sorry for the long post lol

IslandBambini · 31/07/2017 14:04

@Shemozzle Did you ever fear after your first that you'd suffer with sickness/nausea/HG again when deciding on having more?

My son has just turned 5 and is an only child but that fear is what is majorly holding me back..

whyhastherumgone · 31/07/2017 19:28

HG sounds absolutely awful, I don't know how people cope with it

happydays00 · 31/07/2017 19:56

Another HG sufferer here. At 6 weeks I was fine and remember saying "I think if I was going to get sick it would have happened by now." At 6+2 I was retching and dry heaving, at 6+5 I was struck down. I was constantly nauseous and sick every day until my DD was born at 37 weeks. I was induced because of how severe the HG was and have actually lost 4 teeth because of the constant vomiting.

I don't know if I could do it again

katycb · 31/07/2017 21:22

I have twins who are both girls so everyone assumes that I had terrible morning sickness. I felt a bit quesy on an empty stomach from about 6-11 weeks and went off chocolate. That was it. Tbf I had major complications later on and was hospitalised for months however sickness wise I got off pretty lightly!
