Hi.
I keep reading that it is common not to put on weight in the 1st trimester and in the 2nd a pound a week is about average.
What experiences have people had?
I'm 16 weeks and have only put on 2 pounds and am worried that is not enough.
I'm seeing my midwife next Thursday so can will ask her but this is bugging me and I'm worried.

Literally in week 5/6 I put on a stone overnight! This was despite me being very fit and active and exercising 4/5 times a week! I just thinks my body will do what the hell it wants to do! However, a friend is still in her pre pregnancy jean and is further ahead than me!

I would have chat with your midwife. Are you eating regular meals? How is your appetite? Have you had sickness?

I felt sick for most of the first three months and struggled to eat but did force myself to. I feel fine and am eating normally for breakfast, lunch and dinner and also having a snack mid morning and afternoon. Drinking alot of milkshakes too as really fancy them at the moment.
2 pounds really doesn't make sense to me as I have a bump already and am in maternity trousers already.
Have you been eating much extra?

Your not really supposed to put on much weight in the first 2 trimesters, I don't think. I've put on far too much Sad

I'm 19 weeks and I'm 4 lbs lighter than my booking in weight. My BMI at booking in was 24 so I didn't need to lose any but my sickness has caused this. At my lightest I was down 8lbs and this was just before I wasn't put on anti sickness tablets.
I think it depends on what your build is like before you are pregnant. Im aiming for a pound a week gain from week 20 onwards.
Speak to your midwife if you have concerns but I think it's about 20lbs over the pregnancy is ideal.
