Positive test 3 weeks after miscarriage

Had a medically managed miscarriage almost 3 weeks ago. Passed the sac within a few hours, then had spotting on and off. Never heavy. Tmi but it's just slimy blood.

Yesterday I had a clot, after the blood pretty much stopped all together. I rang them and they told me to do a pregnancy test.

I got a strong positive. The bleeding is pretty much nothing. I rang them back and the nurse who answered barely spoke English and told me to call back another time

What does this mean? Is it too early to be a new pregnancy?

How many weeks were you at the time of the miscarriage? I think it's too soon for a new pregnancy unless your m/c was very early, my bigger concern would be that your body hasn't passed the previous pregnancy completely yet.

So sorry to hear about your miscarriage. Have they performed an ultrasound to check the miscarriage was complete? I had a miscarriage a while ago (it was very early on and complete so didn't require medical intervention), however, I was experiencing some continued pain and so given a scan to ensure that my uterus was empty which provided reassurance. I know sometimes HCG levels can take a while to fall, so it may not mean anything, but I think it's worth seeking reassurance. They can at least do bloodiest monitoring of HCG levels to see if it's rising (in case of a new pregnancy), or falling (in case of it being HCG from the previous pregnancy). Do keep calling them - or if you have an EPAU nearby it may be worth calling them or 111 to see if anyone else can help?

It's hard to say at this point. How many weeks were you?
With my last mmc at 11 weeks, I bled heavily with large clots for 3-4 weeks but didn't lose the sac, tested and it was still a strong positive. I had to go in hospital eventually and finally the sac came away, it was rather large at that point and I was surprised.

Agree with pp that you should be getting a scan usually around 3-4 weeks afterwards to ensure everything has cleared. Usually, in my trust anyway, it's done through the gynae ward not PAU.
