I'm due tomorrow & have caught my DD1's gastroenteritis bug and have REALLY bad diarrhea (sorry if TMI). I'm worried about the baby getting dehydrated as i cant seem to keep anything inside me and i'm not feeling as many movements. Has this happened to anyone else? Do you think it is worth me phoning the hospital (i've had it since sunday). I've been to the doctor for DD1 and all he said was try and keep her drinking fluids and just wait for it to pass so not sure if its worth going to see him again for me.....

try not to worry baby will be fine. i had a bug like that at 35-37 weeks and lost 5kg ( I had only put on 10kg during the pregnacy). They took me in for a scan and baby was fine. They told me that babies are like parasites - they get all teh energy going and its onoly you that suffers! He was 8lb 5oz when he was born.

Apparently as long as you are still drinking and your urine is a normal colour ( and not like strong tea) then you will be ok.

HOWEVER, if you are at all worried I woudl phone teh hospital and ask them. espeaily if you are feling less movement. they may want you to coem in for a scan

if you are getting dehydrated, you should call in, dark urine is a symptom of that...baby will be fine, you will feel awful ! x hope you are feeling better soon x

i think if you are worried and you are not feeling as many movements than it is worth phoning the hospital - better to go and get it checked out than worry about it.

I had this - not a bug but a sign I was about to go into Labour (sorry if TMI).

hello - i had this EXACT same thing. my ds had had gastroenterits and then i caught it the day before i was due. i was vomiting and pooing for england and didn't eat for 48 hours. i did manage a bit of water, but that was all. i was planning a homebirth but they said i was probably dehydrated and i should go into hospital to have the baby.

i think all the gut movements kick started labour and i went into labour the next day after still not eating anything. the first thing they did in hospital was check my wee and told me my ketone levels were high and i should eat something to give me energy for labour (yeah right!).

anyway, i gave birth pretty quickly and baby was fine. only thing was i felt even more drained and weak afterwards than i guess i would have done if i hadn't been ill, but it wasn't the end of the world!

hope you get better soon and have a great birth!

so what happened???

KristinaM · 28/03/2007 22:05

mummyelle - where are you?

mummyelle · 29/03/2007 07:50

sorry - wasn't on computer at all yesterday. For anyone else who has this problem i bought one of those rehydration treatments to make up for all the lost fluid and drank them (disgusting though) and also some rennie to take away the horrible bubbling sensation in my tummy. Last night was the first night i didnt have to live in the toilet and feel so much better. Thank you to everyone for their advice. Also dont know if this is completely unrelated but just had a show as well so hopefully things are starting to get moving!
