Just found out I'm pregnant after 4 days of intense partying at a festival

I thought I might be pregnant so took a test last Monday which came up negative.

I went to Secret Garden Party this weekend and had an intense weekend of partying and sleep deprivation.

After still not getting my period (it kept feeling like it was coming - cramps, backache etc) I took another pregnancy test this morning, which was positive. I've since taken a third to make sure, and yep pregnant again.

I'm scared I could have damaged the foetus and feel terrible about it, even though I didn't know at the time.

Has anyone got any advice with this? Should I tell my Dr? I'm scared he/she will think I'm irresponsible or that I could have done lasting damage.

OP many many people go out and get wrecked not knowing they are pg. You don't need to worry about that. From now on though take care of yourself as this is clearly good news!

I got pregnant about the day before a big holiday and spent the next two weeks drinking like a sailor and eating seafood, etc.

It's fine. It happens to loads of us. Don worry, honestly.

And congratulations! Flowers

It won't make any difference. The foetus isn't connected to your blood supply by the umbilical cord/placenta yet, it's too early!

I did exactly the same OP. When I tearfully asked the midwife at my first hospital visit whether I'd harmed the baby, she laughed and said "I drank a full bottle of Malibu the day before I found out I was pregnant, don't worry about it. If I drank that at 7 months pregnant, that's when people would be worried."

Do you mean drugs as well as alcohol?

Even if so the odds are good that all will be well.

ElizabethShaw · 25/07/2017 15:06

How far along are you? If you're in the first couple of weeks then it isn't even a foetus yet, its still an embryo and not getting anything from you through the placenta yet. If you're 10 weeks along it might be a different matter.

"Partying and sleep deprivation" = drugs and booze?

PinkHeart5911 · 25/07/2017 15:08

Honestly it will be fine, many of us had a good few drinks before finding out myself included.

It's what you do from now that's important

OutComeTheWolves · 25/07/2017 15:09

You'll be fine. Unless people spend their whole lives acting like they're already pregnant, then 99.9% of women I would estimate have done something they shouldn't early on in their pregnancy.

Except me obviously Wink I certainly didn't wail to my doctor that I'd just been on a weekend bender to celebrate dh's birthday. Oh no definitely not me!

I found out I was pregnant mid January, after going to xmas and new years parties and drinking.

I felt awful but the midwife reassured me and DS was absolutely fine!

artisticat · 25/07/2017 15:14

Ah, thanks this makes me feel so much better.

It was completely unplanned and to be honest thought there was very little chance since the first test was neg so I just enjoyed myself!

I think I'm around 4-5 weeks from the Clearblue test I did today, so it's very early days!
