I know we're advised not to eat soft, mould ripened cheese (unless cooked), but what do people do I'm France, Italy, Switzerland etc? I find it hard to believe they avoid those cheeses through pregnancy?

As much as I love forums, there is a danger of old wives tales / outdated information being passed around, rather than links to the NHS advice.

Just out of curiosity, is everyone who is steering clear of soft cheeses also steering clear of prepackaged salad, deli meats/packaged ham etc and prepared fruits?

Those other items aren't on the avoid list

Yes I realise that, however they are proven sources of listeria so it would make sense to avoid those foods too.

Given my own understanding of the risk and a quick review of the rates of listeria in the UK I think I'll continue to use my own judgement. It's so interesting to see everyone else's opinions though and how risk is perceived.
