Hello,

I'm 24 years old and I found out on Sunday that I was 6 weeks pregnant.

I went to the Gynae Centre on Tuesday to have a medical abortion and they confirmed there that I am 6 weeks and 5 days gone.
On Tuesday I took my 1st pill and today (Wednesday) I took my 2nd pill, but I am a little worried that is hasn't worked.

I took the 2nd pill at 14:30. I got home around 15:30, felt a few cramps and starting bleeding. Around 17:00 the pain was really severe and I went to the toilet and passed what I think was a clot. 20 minutes later I went to the toilet again and passed about 4 or 5 clots at once.

Since then (17:30ish), I haven't really had much pain and the bleeding has eased off a little. I also haven't passed any clots since.

I'm worried now that the medical abortion was not successful? Has anyone experienced this? Everyone talks about a 'sac' but I'm not sure if a 'sac' dropped because the toilet water was too red to see what actually fell right at the start.

From peoples experiences, how long has it taken for the 'sac' to drop? Can it sometimes take days?

Any help would be massively appreciated.

Thank you!

Oh and I forgot to say- since 14:30, I've only filled up 1 pad.
I'm really worried it hasn't worked.

I had a medical abortion at 8 weeks. Sounds perfectly normal, right down to the relative lack of bleeding, and paranoia that it hasn't worked. I even felt well enough to go out later that evening (though no booze because of the antibiotics).

Make sure you take the antibiotics to the end of the course, and ring the doctor if anything feels 'wrong'.

But otherwise, you're going to be fine. You've made a decision - have faith in yourself.

AnUtterIdiot and Lemond1fficult- thank you so much. You've really help to put my mind at rest.

Lemond1fficult- I feel the same. I was up and moving last night and I slept through last night and feel completely fine this morning. I'm going to keep taking the antibiotics but I've come off the pain killers completely.

I've read so many horror stories about the amount of pain and blood and clots and I've just had none of that. It's good to know that it's not just me.

I've got a scanned booked in for Tuesday to see if it was successful. Fingers crossed!

from what you've described it sounds like it worked fine xxx

SleepFreeZone · 20/07/2017 10:32

I had a natural miscarriage at 6 weeks and never saw a sac or even passed clots. I just bled a lot.

ElizaDontlittle · 20/07/2017 10:33

That all sounds like it's supposed to be - the horror stories sound more like complications (from a more medical pov) - your experience sounds like it should be.

Lemond1fficult · 21/07/2017 23:57

Hey @legogirl are you aok?

legogirl1234 · 22/07/2017 09:22

Hey @Lemond1fficult,

I am well thank you :)
I moved my appointment forward from Tuesdsy to yesterday because I've just felt no pain since the first day and haven't barely had a spot of bleeding.
Had the scan yesterday and they said that the baby has gone and the sac has passed too. Must have passed it without noticing.
I guess every women's body deals with these things differently.

Mixed emotions. Feel relieved but also feel quite sad for what could have been. Hard times Sad

Thank you so much checking up on me- means a lot to know I'm not alone.

If anyone ever has anything like this happen to time, whether it's 1 month, 1 year or 10 years time - please message and and I will try to help X

Very tough, Lego, even when you feel certain it's right. I'm pleased there's nothing remaining and it was successful. You may not have found it, but there is a good board on MN for termination discussion - 'pregnancy choices', under body and soul. Often people in need of advice and experience there X

Hello!

I really hope you get this message. I am a bit worried. I have a medical yesterday. I chose to have same day treatment one tablet orally and four tablets internally. I started cramping a couple of hours later but no bleeding. I had the tablets at 2pm. Started bleeding at 7pm. Went to toilet and had a medium sized clot. Blood was quite dark. A had a few clots after. No pain at all. Had quite a bit of diarrhoea also. That passed after about half hour. I thought I would go to bed and be woken up with pain. But nothing. I am now onto the next day and had no clots and next to no bleeding. Filled up one pad I would say. I am worried it hasn’t worked. I phoned Marie stopes and they advised me to wait 48 hours which will be tomorrow. I am getting so stressed about it the fact that I know my body and don’t think the pregnancy has passed. Xx

That sounds promising.

I have never had a termination by pill so am unable to give you an experience... but, I am sure the fact you are now bleeding is a good sign.

I hope everything passes quickly for you xx

Lovemykids10001 · 17/09/2021 15:59

@NinaJames thank you lovely, still bleeding the same amount so far only really when I’m on the toilet pain not too bad worrying incase it hasn’t worked as this seems too easy from the stories I have read online I was terrified! Xxx
