Gestational diabetes test - help?

Got an appointment for my test at 8.20am tomorrow and can't eat from 10pm tonight! Can I have water? And how long do I have to wait until I can eat? I'm panicking because I wake up starving every morning and if I don't eat straight away I feel sick. My midwife didn't explain the procedure to me very well so I'm unsure what to expect.. anyone got any info?

Thank you 😊

Water will be fine.
You can't eat until they've taken your blood, so I used to take a banana or roll & butter with me to eat straight afterwards

Water is fine but don't have anything else. This includes things like chewing gum. They will take your blood when you get there and then give you a large sugary drink. You have to drink it all whilst they keep an eye on you in about 10 mins or so. You then have to wait two hours and they take your blood again. After that you can eat. I was dreading it but it wasn't as bad as I was expecting.

You're lucky yo get a nice early appointment OP, mine was 09:40.. by the time we got out of there it was midday and I thought I was going to punch someone lol

I had a GDT a couple of weeks ago. Exactly the same as you, I feel a bit sick until I eat in the morning. My test was at 9, they took a blood sample, gave me an orange drink which had to be consumed within 5 mins, then another test 2hrs later.

The drink should get rid of the sickness for you, if they use the same it is horribly sweet, 1st mouthful just takes like weak orange squash then after a few more actually made my throat hurt a bit, but it is drinkable and there isn't too much of it.
I took my tablet with some downloaded programmes to watch as 2hrs sat there would have been very boring otherwise.
You can sip water throughout but no glugging as it could affect the test.
Got my results at my next midwife app.
Hope all is ok.

I was the same. I have to eat otherwise I start throwing but I did cope, just felt every rough.
We were in the hospital restaurant within seconds of the second test.
Some how it manageable even feeling sick.
Unfortunately for me I do have gestational diabetes though
