38 weeks and worrying growth

Just been to a midwife appointment - I'm 37+6. Last time I went at 33+5 baby was measuring at 85th percentile according to fundal height, and in my last three measurements she's been consistently growing at that sort of size (20+2, 28, 31+2, 33+5).

Missed my last appointment as I was away so it's been 4 weeks, and suddenly today fundal height is way small, just below the 10th centile, and shows a rapid drop. Baby has a healthy heartbeat and movements seem good to me, but now I'm really worried.

Has anyone experienced this or have any ideas/reassurance?

They have booked me in for a growth scan tomorrow at 4pm. I was just wondering if anyone had anything that could help until then. X

I had issues with growth with my daughter who's now 15months. I was having growth scans every two weeks from 22 weeks was shown around special care and was told to prepare myself for having a very small baby. Went into natural labour the day before induction at 37 weeks and she was a healthy 6lbs 10oz. I wouldn't worry too much until after your scan tomorrow.

If they have serious concerns baby isn't getting what he/ she need they will induce you.

Good luck for tomorrow

The change in bump measurements could be down to something simple as position of baby.

37+6 here and been at hospital for appointment today for missed diagnosis of GD. Midwife not happy with funeral measurements or foetal heart rate so sent for urgent scan and head and abdominal measurements are on par with 33 week growth. I have a high Doppler reading too so after monitoring me all afternoon I have been sent home and will be induced tomorrow. I had a scan at 36 weeks which showed a slowdown in growth on par with my 28 Week scan and baby has not grown much since although appears happy. It appears baby is not getting enough nourishment from the cord so they want to deliver. This is my 3rd dc and both were delivered small at 5lb 2oz + 5lb 6oz but healthy. My community midwife measured fundal height last week at 36 weeks so it varies. Try not to worry.

My midwife didnt like to use fundal height as quite unreliable but I ended up with growth scans with both dd1 and dd2. Dd2 showed accelerated growth till 33 weeks then it slowed right down and showed she'd only put a little weight on in 4 weeks. I had a placenta blood flow scan and brain blood flow scan of baby and all seemed fine but I was induced at 37 weeks and lucky I was as placenta was failing and it was pale and gritty and looked about 42 weeks gestation rather than 37. Baby was fine and they estimated she would be 7.5lb and she was 6.9lb. Scans are unreliable too but they will check lots of things to make sure you're both well and will go from there. Try not to worry I'm sure you're in good hands.

That should say fundal, not funeral. Bloody auto correct. Sorry

Baby dropped into pelvis or turned?

Elllicam · 17/07/2017 20:15

My midwife was concerned about Ds3 being small for dates after a fundal height measurement. She sent me for a scan that day and it turned out he was really big but lying transverse. Hopefully it's just unreliable measurements x

I had several extra growth scans for reduced fundal height in 1st pregnancy. The midwives kept saying it was unreliable as depended on who did the measurement and what position the baby was in. Every scan showed that she was growing fine, no problems. Try not to worry too much. Good luck tomorrow Flowers

Thanks everyone. Still worried but hopefully it's nothing or if it is something, then they can help. Will update tomorrow x
