Hi Ladies,
I am a little new to this but am hoping you can help. I am suffering with all day nausea and have been prescribed cyclizine by my GP , after having tried all the natural remedies, but do not feel that it is making a huge difference. Are any of you away of any other medication that is more effective, yet not harmful, that could help me escape this nauseating feeling?
thanks so much in advance for your help!

Hi. Sorry you're feeling rough

Lots of good advice here. The helpline is brilliant too
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/help/treatments/

You can try promthezine (an antihistamine like cyclizine but sometimes one works for someone and not the other). Been used for years in pregnancy.

Your GP may want to try you on metaclopramide (although this is often limited to 5 days as it was give women twitches) or Stemetil.

If these don't work, many of us have ended up on ondansetron. It's a stronger drug with less evidence in pregnancy, so some GPs can be reluctant to provide it. It can also cause horrible constipation. That said, it's a good drug and many women (me included) find it's the only thing that had an effect.

Some more techy guidelines here, if you end up arguing with your GP!

Also, the Hyperemesis support thread on here is a great place for sickness support. Hope you feel better soon Smile

Thank you very much LemonDrop99, good to know there is something out there that can help. Drs just prescribed stemetil, hopefully they will have a better effect.

When cyclizine didn't work for me I was prescribed Avomine which worked wonders and has made the last 6/7 weeks manageable! Just trying to come off them now at 14 weeks and keeping my fingers crossed. Morning sickness is so horrible! Good luck! Hope you feel better soon!

Another vote for Ondansetron.

I'm not in the UK but I do know this drug is available in the UK but more expensive so less likely to be prescribed but I'm on doxylamine which has been pretty much fantastic (not so in the evenings when it wears off and doesn't help with my travel sickness which is worse now). Its also one of the few that has been studied enough for them to safely say that it really is safe in pregnancy (there are lots that are considered safe but haven't been as studied as much as this)

Thanks very much everyone for your input. At this moment in time Stemetil has me feeling a bit more like a normal person again, fingers crossed it continues.
So lovely to have people who are happy to share and help! x
