Hi mumsnet

First post here..

our baby is due at end of september but we dont really have a 'HR' department at work so I feel very in the dark about my entitlement/how maternity/shared pay works.

I wondered if someone on here could clear it up for me

I will be taking

-31 weeks maternity leave (9 weeks of this is full pay and then down to statutory)

  • 9 weeks of annual leave (combo of two years allowance)
My bf will then be taking: -4 weeks annual leave -4 weeks shared parental leave

Question: Are we entitled to statutory maternity pay/shared parental pay during the weeks where we are ‘spending’ our annual leave?
Any advice appreciated!

Hi bmachine

From my non-expert understanding, when you take annual leave you're entitled to full pay (as long as your annual leave is paid anyway) regardless of if it's tagged to the start/end of your mat leave. You don't get SMP/SPP on top, if that's what you're asking.

Normally A/L is taken in addition to maternity leave. I'm taking mine directly before and after, so it all runs into one but doesn't overlap. So I get paid mat pay on mat leave and full pay on A/L. It's one or the other. You shouldn't be missing out on anything, as you just take the A/L after your chosen period of Mat leave.
