Expecting DC2 - how/when did you tell DC1?

DC1 is 2.7 and I'm getting near to 12-weeks pg with DC2 - will be telling people after scan etc but wondering when/how to tell DC1? They know I've been a bit poorly etc but not too sympathetic about it (surprisingly for a 2-year-old!!)

I've see that book 'there's a house inside my mummy' - would anyone recommend? DC is likely to take that literally especially as he's got a building site outside his window where they're building houses...

There's a House inside my mummy is a really lovely book, I'd definitely recommend it. We also have I'm a New Big Sister.

DD is only 18 months and I'm 18 weeks but we've started to gently introduce the idea to her.

thanks and congratulations!
He's quite astute and will probably pick up on something when people start talking about it.

Congratulations!
We have approx the same age gap, DS has just turned 3 and I'm 30 weeks. We told him after the scan and he understood that there was a baby in my tummy but thought I must have eaten it, as that's how things get in your tummy! 😂

We took DS, 2.8, to a private scan to tell him about the baby. I was 18 weeks & we all found out together it was a girl. DS was very excited, she was waving at him & he was waving back, it was lovely to see. He kisses my bump everyday & is always asking how his baby sister is & when she'll be ready to come out! We also bought him a book, I'm a new big brother, pirate Pete.

We had There's a House... and the Pirate Pete book too. Both really helped DS1 get to grips with it aged 2. Smile

DD (2.7 at the time) ended up in 20 week scan with us as the friend who was going to take her couldn't last minute. We were going to plug her into iPad but electronics were not allowed in scan room. Stickers were next distraction plan but all the lights get turned off. So we stuck her on DP's knee and told her and she joined in. Thankfully all was well with baby, not sure how it would have panned out otherwise. We had been gently introducing idea of babies coming from mummy's tummies so it wasn't a complete shock. She took it absolutely fine. Best of luck.
