Hi ladies, I know what we gain is not the be all and end all of pregnancy but it's really starting to get me down....
I started off 170cm and 61kg (134lbs) with a BMI of 20. I am 35 weeks pregnant tomorrow with a weight gain of 17kg! (38lbs). I am so pissed as I have consistently excerised the whole time 5-6x a week (weights, swimming, hiking and walking) yet I've still ballooned!! I know.I eat a bit more than usual but.not that much. I put.on 85lbs (40kg) with my first son and lost it all fairly quickly and vowed I would stay within the 'limits'. Anyone in the same boat?? I'm sad. I know it's going to take a lot of work to sort it out after :(

At 35 weeks, maybe 20lb or more will be baby, placenta, water weight and all the extra blood and fluids you're circulating. I reckon by your 6 week check you'll have less than a stone to lose, and all the exercise you're doing will stand you in great stead. Be proud of yourself for staying so active!

I gave birth to d's 2 weeks ago and had gained 3 stone. I actually weighed myself the next day and had lost 15lbs. Baby was 7lb4 at birth. I've consistently lost weight since then. Don't worry about it, if you have stayed healthy throughout pregnancy the weight will probably just melt away over the first weeks.

Thanks for your reply ouchbollocks. I am very proud that ive kept up with my workouts (have toned it down a bit the past month as bump is so big!). Its hard not to feel a tad upset about it. My legs bum and arms have a nice layer that they never used to. My belly is pretty darn huge too! im hoping it slows down a lot. Thanks heaps x

And thats great notevenlistening....it does give me hope that it will fall off quickly. I just dont get it...some women gain only baby! Then theres me who gains and retains everything!! And I'm normally very fit and lean. 😳

You were quite lean to start.
You are nearly at finish line, too.
FWIW, I'm very nearly same height/startweight & gained similar at that point. I was back in regular clothes within 3 weeks after birth. I always think 2 stone is the minimum anyone should gain if they start lean.

I had a BMI of 18 pre-pregnancy. With each of my pregnancies I had put on 12 lbs by week 12 despite barely eating as I felt so ill. The body does what it needs to do. My weight gain ended up similar to yours. Post pregnancy I lost most of it by 6 weeks. The remaining 6 pounds was a further 6 weeks or so. I didn't diet or exercise.

Sasmac2017 · 16/07/2017 09:35

Wow Katmeifyoucan....that's really great that you lost it so fast. I also agree the body will do what it needs to and yes I suppose the smaller we start it makes.sense the body wants 'supplies' for BF etc. Still doesn't make it easy does it !?! :) I live in hope that this time around it doesn't take me 5 months to get back to normal. I gained 85lbs with my first and lots it by 5 months p.p. I think that's why I'm so paranoid and upset as it was awful being that big and being stuck a.good 50lbs overweight after the birth!! Thanks.for replies xx

I don't think you have anything to worry about. I'm exercising 5 times a week and still half half a stone to shift. DS2 is 17 months!

The thought of losing it all 6 weeks after giving birth mystifies me.

I did have about 4 stone to lose (60pounds ish), never fully lost weight after DS1. I'm telling myself slow and steady wins the race.

Well done blazedandconfused on your weight loss. That's fantastic
I do think the extra few lbs we can blame on boobs!! Thanks for reassuring me. The body does strange things in pregnancy doesnt it!?! 😀
