Hello! I just found out I'm pregnant, unexpectedly, so I'm not on any supplements yet!
I've heard that pregnacare can make you feel even worse, has anyone else found that?
Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations! I need to get on them asap as I'm almost 7 weeks (I think!)

Thanks!

I took pregnacare all though pregnancy and it had no adverse effect. Although i know people that have reacted badly to it. You definately need to be taking folic acid but i definately recommend pregnancy vitamins of some kind as they contain folic acid as well as all the other vitamins that are good for baby and you. DS is nearly a year old and im still on my pregnancy vitamins lol. They always seem to give me extra energy. Im on the seven seas ones now as they are a third of the price of pregnacare. Congratulations on your pregnancy! Xxx

I found most pregnancy tablets made me sick within about 20 mins of taking them, not just pregnacare, however I did find that seven seas trying for a baby were fine. They have everything you need even though it says trying for a baby and they didn't make me sick Grin

Folic acid and vit D are all that are recommended by NHS

Heratnumber7 · 16/07/2017 08:31

I wouldn't take anything without discussing with your GP as too much of something could damage either you or the baby.
Anyone on a normal balanced diet shouldn't need any extra vitamins.

Why spend £££ on tablets when green veg, fruit etc is nicer and cheaper?

dementedpixie · 16/07/2017 08:33

Folic acid and vitamin d are all that's recommended by nhs. Difficult to get enough vitamin d from food

RememberToSmile1980 · 16/07/2017 08:35

First of all congratulations! I took pregnacare with my first DS and had no problems whatsoever. I am currently expecting again and this time pregnacare made me fill more nauseous, therefore I stick to folic acid and vit D separately. See how you get on.

Thanks everyone! I'll try pregnacare and see how it goes!
I'm super aware I should be on folic acid already as I'm almost 7 weeks so I'll get some today!

Herat that's bad advice, I thought everyone knew the importance of folic acid in pregnancy. And obviously it's best to get everything you need from a balanced diet but again it's well known that many pregnant women get morning sickness and food aversions so it's much easier said than done!
OP in my first pregnancy pregnacare was fine but this time I'm sicker (twins) and I've found changing to just folic acid and vitamin D has helped a bit.

Lunalovepud · 16/07/2017 12:00

I have been on Pregnacare in both pregnancies and I don't think it has made me feel any worse, although take it at night before you go to bed would be my advice as then if it does make you feel worse, you'll sleep through it. ;-)

As PPs have said, the minimum you should be taking as per the NHS guidance is Folic Acid and also recommended is Vit D.

@herat - I am not sure I have ever had a normal, balanced diet in pregnancy - between morning sickness, cravings and food aversions (when PG with DC1 the only thing I could stomach for months was white bread toast, poached eggs and ice lollies) I think pregnancy vits were an absolute godsend!

Not to mention the greatly reduced risks of neural tube defects when taking folic acid up to 12 weeks...

TheLionQueen1 · 16/07/2017 14:34

I've been taking the seven seas pregnancy tablets, and took their pre-pregnancy tablets when trying for a baby and have found they're really good. No side affects for me and MW said they are as good a brand as any. Asda have them 3 packs for £15 at the moment which is 12 weeks worth.

BrollyDolly · 16/07/2017 14:53

I've been taking the Tesco ones throughout my pregnancy and don't seem to have any affect on me. Think they are about £3 for 30

ELFR · 16/07/2017 14:58

My MW advised folic acid, vit D and Vit C. I also take Vit B as I'm a bit deficient anyway. She said basic brand ones will do as there is no difference between a 79p bottle or top range ones.

TidmanK · 17/07/2017 11:42

I brought a pack of pregnacare as it was on offer. We'll see how it goes!

I hated the after taste of the pregnacare ones. They made me feel sick just by the taste. I just got wilkos own brand pregnancy care tablets and they seem fine. Much cheaper than the branded ones too and essentially do the same thing. Saving my £ for when baby is here!
