Anxiety

Hello :)

I've suffered from anxiety and depression my whole life, was medicated from ages 19-27 and then tapered off and have had 3 years unmedicated, managing the symptoms fairly well. The worst time for me is around my period, it goes haywire. I tend to suffer a lot from physical symptoms of anxiety such as teeth grinding, headaches, dry mouth, dry eyes, general tenseness and interrupted sleep (which makes dry eyes worse.)

At the start of my pregnancy I actually felt amazing, almost total relief. But this past week I've been noticing a lot anxiety and its accompanying symptoms seeping in. I'm not particularly anxious or worried about the pregnancy - and yet I have all these horrid physical symptoms.

I'm wondering, shall I mention this to my midwife when I see her next week? Will she actually be able to offer any help? I don't want to start the long road of medication again and certainly not while pregnant.

Also, is there anything you can suggest as a way of relieving these symptoms? honestly I'm so tempted to have a glass of wine just to take the edge off.

Thanks in advance

Definitely talk to midwife, ask about perinatal mental health referral

And don't rule out ADs, there are some that can be used in pregnancy. I came off mine, slowly from 8-12 weeks, but consultants would have been ok with me staying on if needed
