Hi everyone! Advice please.

I have been taking folic acid (for a couple of months) & now am also taking general multi-vits (for a couple of weeks) as part of my TTC plan! ☺️ I am on Cycle 2!

BUT - I have just looked at the label whilst taking my multi vits & it says do no take if you are pregnant or trying to concieve. I then googled this & VIT A can 'harm your unborn child'.

How did I not know this? Can anyone recommend what they have been taking supplement wise - thanks so much! X

You only need to take folic acid and then vitamin D when pregnant.

The Boots / Pregnacare etc pre-conception vitamins are great - everything you need, nothing dangerous.

Oh fab, thanks! Will just stick to the folic acid & scrap the multi-vits!

You need bit D as well as folic acid tho.

Plus some of the B vits can be helpful for fertility, hence why most people are saying switch to a pregnancy multivit. This will contain your folic acid, but D plus other helpful (although not essential) vitamins.

Ok thanks so much @ladynaomi - I will look today, thank you!

I was told just folic acid pre pregnancy and then that and vit D when you're pregnant. Personally I'd advocate just buying supermarket versions of both- just as effective as branded, a fraction of the price and also some brands such as Pregnacare seem to increase nausea for some people due to the other (unnecessary) multivits bunged in. - I've had sickness since week 8 and am now 28 weeks so definitely didn't want to take anything that added to this!! Good luck OP :) xx

Pregnacare made me nauseous.

My midwife strongly recommended a pregnancy multivitamin, as did my consultant when I was going through fertility testing. Of course folic acid is the essential (with vitamin d now coming to be accepted as vital) but a pregnancy multivitamin can't do any harm and certainly could do some good. Obviously if it's triggering nausea it's best to stop taking (or try another brand) but that's not going to happen to every woman.
