Constant heart palpitations

Hi lovely people. I'm 18 weeks and for the last couple of weeks I have had constant heart palpitations. I feel it roughly every hour and it's like my heart skips a beat or 2 and it lasts for a minute or so.

I read that it's normal in pregnancy to get these, bit did anyone else get them so regularly? I'm tired and out of breath all the time too, it's driving me mad!

I've got the docs tomorrow to be sure, but just wondering if anyone else is getting it? I'm starting to freak myself out!

Have you had your iron levels checked recently? Sounds like the symptoms I get when I'm anaemic.

Constantlurker · 13/07/2017 17:21

Oh really? I've not had them checked but will mention it to the doctor tomorrow and see if they can look. Thank you!

I have had this from 16 weeks - ask your GP for an ecg just to check if any underlying conditions (it will just be the pregnancy but just to ease your mind) it's super quick and only takes a few seconds! I'm 30 weeks now and still get them. Sometimes they take my breath away! Hang in there x

Honestly it will be the pregnancy, and an ecg is just a normal thing to do - so hope I didn't add an anxiety into the mix xxx my was fine even though it feels like my heart thuds and skips beats etc! Xxx

Thank you! Went to the docs and he sent me for blood tests but had a good listen and wasn't concerned. Although I think my blood test was done by nurse ratchet as half of my arm is blue from bruising she was so rough! Good to know you had the same, it's such a weird sensation Smile

I found it very disconcerting the way my heart would race so fast throughout two of my pregnancies. Thankfully got back to normal after the births.

Glad you feel reassured after seeing the doctor.

Maybe anaemia? I know pounding heart beat is a classic symptom but I only found out I was anaemic when I was 28 weeks pregnant because of the palpations. My son is 11 weeks old now and I still get palpations and have just found out I still have anaemia so I definitely think it's a symptom BUT it's nothing to worry about as long as you get iron tablets and get it sorted x

I had problems with my heart with my first pregnancy from about 14 weeks until I gave birth. (I'd never had any problems before this and it's been fine ever since!) My heart rate was constantly resting at 130bpm and there were times it would rise to anything between 150-190bpm and I would get really dizzy and feel like I was going to pass out. I ended up in hospital a few times with it throughout the pregnancy but they could never figure out what was causing it and just had to monitor me until it came back down. They did put me on metaprolol and I was under a cardiologist but nothing helped until the baby was out of me! Really strange! Hope you get it sorted x
