Arrrghh. I can't stop eating ice. All I drink is ice water. Can't get enough. Is this normal?

I'll tell you whats not normal! I cried because I couldn't get tickets to go see Phil Collins. I'm 27. What is wrong me? 😂😂

Yes and quite common I think, especially when pregnant in Summer. My sister had her ds at the end of an epic August heat wave. She used to sit with pint glasses filled with ice and eat it- the freezer was emptied of everything but ice! I thought it was odd at the time.....then I had dd at the end of a hot July and got it!

Pallisers · 13/07/2017 16:11

I had this with 2 of my pregnancies (not confined to the summer either). I would sit at my desk and eat glasses of ice all day long. I would eat my ice and then take the ice from dh's glass if we were out. I actually remember restraining myself from reaching across a table in a cafe and stealing the ice from a stranger's glass.

I did worry a bit about my teeth. Apparently it is a sign of low iron levels.

Steph999999 · 13/07/2017 16:21

Yes, I had this when I was pregnant. There was literally nothing in the world better than a glass full of ice. Someone offered me a snowcone slushy thing but it just didn't compare to plain old ice cubes.

I've also seen on American TV shows women in labour having ice chips so guess it's pretty normal.

Anyway I indulged regularly as it was much better for me than my other craving (chow mein).

Sat munching a pint of ice right now Smile

A drawer in my freezer has been cleared out for bags of the stuff.

EdgeOfGlory266 · 13/07/2017 16:31

Makes me loads better. My iron is low, so maybe that is it.

I also noticed that none of you cried about Phil Collins. Just me then.

Yep, I had this too. And I read somewhere afterwards about iron - I was anaemic.

EdgeOfGlory266 · 13/07/2017 16:44

I'm anaemic so that does make sense. My mum just brought me this.

Ice Ice, baby.

OP I spent the first 12 weeks or so of pregnancy crying at pretty much most songs on the radio, for reasons such as "I love this song" "I haven't heard this song for ages" "this song reminds me of..." Everything from AC/DC to NSync...its ridiculous!!

If Phil is setting you off then avoid the majority of Disney films, he loves a Disney soundtrack Grin

MagnumAddict · 13/07/2017 16:53

I had it in my first pregnancy towards the end, it was my main craving! Low iron too. Then as soon as the baby was born the thought of chewing on ice like sweets was so unappealing!!!

Pregnant again and the craving is back! We ran out of ice last night and I had an ice lolly. No comparison. Has to be plain ice in pretty much any drink.

Do make sure you keep on top of your iron though. I take floradix as its much kinder to your digestive system than having to resort to iron tablets if your levels get too low

Sparklyuggs · 13/07/2017 18:06

I'm obsessed by ice! It started out as drinking cold water and now it's munching away at ice cubes. DH laughs when he hears the rattle of ice cubes!

PonderLand · 13/07/2017 18:09

I'm still obsessed with ice since my pregnancy, 1 year on! I harvest it in my freezer so I NEVER run out. The best ice is from McDonald's and I get full cups of it, it's really small cubes so you can crunch it really easily. My work has an ice machine so that's really helping me proceed with my addiction. Grin

Bubblysqueak · 13/07/2017 18:10

My mw said that craving ice can sometimes be linked with low iron levels.

Gothbaby · 13/07/2017 21:49

It's usually a sign of deficiency! I'm low iron and keep eating fuck tons of ice! X

actino · 14/07/2017 15:10

I cried when my husband bought me the wrong frozen pizza

EdgeOfGlory266 · 14/07/2017 16:43

Oh actino that's worth a few tears. When I was pregnant with my son, we drove to Spain and we stopped in Andorra and I ordered a Big Mac. I sat down and felt too sick to eat it. Cried my eyes out
