Heavy bleeding at 6 weeks

Hi, this is my first ever post and pregnancy, I am 6 weeks and 2 days... my partner and I were very happy and excited until I started to have heavy red bleeding and clots, we were convinced it was a miscarriage, however yesterday I went for a scan only to find that my baby was still there and had a heartbeat!! There was three areas of bleeding one around the baby's sac :( the nurse couldn't say whether it would end in a miscarriage or not but that the risk was still there, as it would be with an early pregnancy, I'm posting to try and find people who may be going through the same thing or who have been through this and could share their experiences

Hi Jess - congratulations on your pregnancy! I had the same experience and I'm sad to say I lost the baby, however in my next pregnancy (2 months later) I again had a heavy bleed (10 weeks) and my partner is currently upstairs trying to get that pregnancy to sleep. There is no way of knowing for now and nothing you can do to change the outcome. All you can do is try to rest, distract yourself, think positively and wait. I know it is agonising. But your baby needs you to believe that it will be fine so that is your job for now 😊

Yeah the wait is agonising I have another scan in 2 weeks so will know if it's getting better or worse or if the worst has happened. It's so great to know that I'm not the only one (silly to think I ever would be but I guess it's natural to feel like you are), sorry to hear about your first experience but so comforting to hear that it can all be ok, thanks for sharing x

You'd be surprised how common miscarriage is as unfortunately people don't talk about it much. Bleeding in pregnancy is even more common though so try to focus on the positives now. The fact that you've seen the baby and it has a heartbeat means it is more likely to survive now. Deep breaths and think positive x

Hi Jessica, pretty much the exact same thing happened to me. I had a heavy bleed and large clots at 6 weeks, convinced I'd miscarried and then they found a heartbeat a few days later. The scan showed an area of bleed as well. Unfortunately that pregnancy did end in miscarriage, although I was told that it wasn't anything to do with the bleed. I'm pregnant again (around 8 weeks at the moment) and had another heavy bleed at 6 weeks again, they've found the heartbeat and saw an area of bleed again on my scan. I've got everything crossed that this pregnancy works out and from what I've read, bleeds are quite common. Sorry, this might not reassure you too much but just wanted to let you know you're not alone x

Thank you for replying, honestly I can't say enough how reassuring it is to talk to others who are going or have been through the same thing, regardless of the outcome. So sorry to hear about your first pregnancy, but wishing you all the luck with this one, @anxiouscrazycatlady have you had any scans with this one yet? I just want these 2 weeks to fly by and then I'll know more, on a positive note I'm really having to develop my patience skills 😅

The waiting and anxiety is just the worst, but we somehow have to live with it and get through it! I had my first midwife appointment today so have my 12 week scan booked in, but I have an earlier reassurance one as well a week on Monday. Dreading already that they'll find something wrong but I can't go through the whole thing thinking like that! Hope you're feeling a bit better x

Jessica90 · 12/07/2017 21:35

My scan is a week on Monday too! It feels like forever away! How long did your bleeding last, I've been bleeding for 4 days now and feel like it will never stop! X

I only bled for one day, and have been brown spotting ever since (2 weeks now). I had my first appointment with my midwife yesterday and she didn't seem too worried about the spotting so I need to try and put it out of my head now (much easier said than done!) Are you bleeding heavily?

Jessica90 · 13/07/2017 16:42

It's heavy enough to be concerned, but appears to be a little less today, still red though, I'm well aware that this is not good so it will be a miracle if all is ok a week on Monday, I'm preparing myself mentally for the worse and then anything is a bonus, but I'm not sure if this is the right way to deal with it but just have this overwhelming feeling of wanting to protect myself getting excited and attached 😔

I would prepare for the worst to be honest. I know that sounds horrible but it would be awful for you to get your hopes up and for then to find out it didn't last. I guess we just have to wait and see, I hate waiting! X

I started bleeding heavily at six weeks. The bleed lasted three full weeks. I had a number of scans and they did eventually spot a sub chorionic haematoma.

I did go on to have a live birth but it wasn't complication free. The baby stopped growing as there were problems with blood flow through the placenta. No one has ever been able to tell me if the two were linked. The baby was born very small at 34 weeks but seems to be a healthy toddler now.

Hi I have been for an early scan as I have had 2 miscarriages and the sonographer found a baby with a heartbeat at 6 weeks 2 days so was so happy and then this week i have started bleeding but was spotting then heavy then stopped then heavy again and it's so scary has anyone had this before and what was their outcomes on my scan the sonographer said it was normal and healthy but i seen what looked like another sac now am worrying was this a bleed ? I am going out of my mind xx

5 weeks and 6 days pregnant when I began bleeding. As this is my first pregnancy I began to panic straight away.. it was more than a period type bleed went to a and e, had an internal scan and they saw the yoke sac but that was all doctor said it was to early and have a scan again in two weeks. It then settled into a period type bleed and has varied over the last 3/4 days from being light spotting, light bleed, and slightly like a period bleed. I know this could possibly be a miscarriage but I’m wondering is there any positive stories that have had a similar story with a positive outcome
