10 weeks- blood when wiping

I am roughly 10 weeks pregnant and just had some brownish-pink blood when wiping after going to the toilet. Not sure of my next step- I have had my booking in appt with midwife so I called the Early Pregnancy Unit but there's no answer. Does anyone know if you are supposed to go via a GO and get referred to them? Saw a strong heartbeat at 8 weeks so had just started to relax a little 😓

GP that should say, not GO.

Ooooh I'd want a little reassurance if I were you. Call your local pregnancy unit again - they should be 24 hour? I'd want to pop along for a scan. Probably nothing but you won't stop worrying till you get checked. Best of luck.

Yes I rang my EPU direct when I had bleeding at 7 weeks. Got me in for a scan the same day and followed me up for a good few weeks after too. Give them a call when they're open.

I hope all ends well for you Flowers

Thank you for your replies, managed to get through on the second try. They have booked me in for a scan next Monday as they have to wait until 2 weeks after my last scan (private one which I had done last weekend). They said it could be nothing so just keep an eye on it and call them straight back if anything else happens in the mean time. Keeping everything crossed 🤞

That's odd about waiting 2 weeks - I had 2 scans in 7 days back in May; both internals. Do call them back if it gets any heavier or painful.

Try to rest up and take it easy. I would say don't worry yourself too much; but that's not likely at all in these situations. Fingers crossed it's just one of those things.

hmyh23 · 10/07/2017 20:59

Thank you, she said it was to establish whether there had been growth between the scans so they could identify if something had gone wrong. She was reassuring and said it doesn't necessarily mean the worst is happening but obviously it could be the start of something more serious as well. Honestly, these people who say they loved being pregnant are nuts! It's just non stop stress and worry.

I had a big bleed at 13 weeks op (sorry if it's tmi but like the first dp of a heavy period). We panicked and went to a&e at 11.30 at night. They organised a scan for the next morning through the epau. I was told that bleeding is quite common (I had no idea)and not always serious when there's no pain. It took about a week for the bleeding to tail off but everything was fine for the rest of the pregnancy. Try to rest, for me walking too much made the bleeding worse.

hmyh23 · 10/07/2017 21:46

Thank you for your reply, that must have been so scary for you, I'm pleased everything was ok in the end. There really is no way of knowing, going to try and go to sleep and see what happens in the morning. May take tomorrow off work to rest.

Well I haven't had any more bleeding, still just a bit of brown discharge when I wipe. Hoping it doesn't progress into anything worse.

I had bright red bleeding which turned to brown for a few days at 12 weeks. Dd is now nearly 13. :-)

hmyh23 · 11/07/2017 15:26

Thank you, there seems to be lots of reassuring stories so trying to stay positive and stop googling.

I had very similar at about 8 weeks. Lasted a couple of days. Turned out to be nothing. DS now rolling around on the floor in front of me trying to learn to crawl

Soulcakequack · 11/07/2017 15:39

If your scan at 8 weeks was roughly right for dates and you saw heart beats. The odds that everything will be ok are hugely in your favour. With my son there was heart beat at 8 weeks and the dating was close to what I expected. I then bleed heavily daily from week 10-12. No reason was ever found but he was fine.

With my miscarriages even when a heat beat was found the growth wasn't anywhere near to where it should be.

It's dreadful limbo waiting and I really really feel for you.

hmyh23 · 11/07/2017 15:57

Yeah it's going to be a long wait until the scan on Monday 😬

Could you afford another private scan inbetween? I know it wouldn't be enough to make you feel better but it might make things a bit easier x

hmyh23 · 11/07/2017 16:19

Things are a bit tight this month as we are going on holiday in a couple of weeks but I might do.

SandysMam · 11/07/2017 16:36

I had a bleed at 6 weeks and 13 weeks, all was fine. Brown blood is old blood apparently. Easier said than done but try to relax and forget about the bleed unless it gets heavier and painful. Hope everything works out ok for you.

NanooCov · 11/07/2017 17:18

I had a very small breed when wiping at 9 weeks. Luckily the hospital local to my office has a walk in EPU so I just went there and had an internal scan - all was good and I'm now 22 weeks. Try not to worry but I also find it weird they have said they have to wait to establish growth - an internal scan at 10 weeks will show whether the pregnancy is still continuing or not. Fingers crossed for Monday.

hmyh23 · 11/07/2017 17:41

Yeah it did seem strange. I think after I had explained it to her she thought it wasn't mega urgent due to not having fresh blood or any pain. They did sat if it got worse I had to ring them straight away and they'd get me in earlier.

Just wanted to update this to say I had scan this morning and everything was fine! Such a relief. Thank you all for your reassuring comments.

Glad to hear it I had slight bleeding with my first she is 17 I had heavy bleeding with my second he is now 8

Tillymintsmama · 17/07/2017 21:57

Oh that's good news OP. I also had bleeding weeks 6-9 on and off with a couple of visits to the EPU. Found out later in the pregnancy I had fibroids and this could have been cause of the bleeding early on. My pregnancy was all fine and healthy after that initial anxious few weeks.

Soulcakequack · 18/07/2017 21:15

Thats wonderful news, wishing you a happy healthy and uneventful pregnancy x
