16 week appointment

Can anyone tell me what to expect from my 16week midwife appointment please x

I should imagine she will check babies heartbeat on a Doppler, check your obs and a general check up.

They go through your blood test results check ur urine and blood pressure and thats pretty much it...

Blood pressure and check your emotional state, how you feel, any questions etc. It's the same at everyone, but from 20 weeks start listening to heartbeat with doppler

Mine told me that we will listen to heartbeat at my next appoint in 2 weeks and that will be my 16 week appointment.

edge - they offer but always stipulate that you may not hear it. Some won't even attempt cos mums start worrying if they don't find it

Hmm I see. I can't for the life of me remember when I heard it with my son.

I was offered at 16 weeks but she said there's a good chance she wouldn't find it. I'd had a private scan 2 days before and heard it then so didn't bother trying.

At 16 weeks I got urine test, BP and tried (successfully) to hear heartbeat. In and out in two mins after the mammoth first one. That was same for my next one with added measuring tape over bump. at my next (28 weeks) she said she has to take blood to check if iron deficient.

I had my 16 week appointment last week and she told me they don't listen for the heartbeat until the 24 week appointment. Maybe it depends on what area you're in.

She checked my blood pressure and treated a urine sample, then asked if I was ok or had any problems. There were a couple of blood test results the hospital hadn't sent so she chased those up and then booked me in for my next appt at 24 weeks.

twinkle - it depends when your last blood test was before that, they usually test a few times through the pregnancy

Think I'll take someone with me just in case I need a hand hold! (Major needle phobia )

In my area they don't listen to the heartbeat until 34 weeks!

Mine only listened to heartbeat for the first time at 28 weeks. At 16 weeks literally just urine dip and asked me about bloods, whole appointment was less than 5 mins!

She just spoke about things and checked wee and blood pressure. That's literally it

Deffo no bloods - at booking and then 28 weeks that's what I was told. I didn't have any at 16 week appt or the one after my 20 week scan.
