Consultant Appointment at 22 weeks?

I'm 15+1 with my first pregnancy and have just received an appointment with a consultant for when i'm 22 weeks. Is this just routine as it doesn't say what it's for? The timing just seems a bit odd as the schedule in my maternity notes doesn't say anything about an appointment at this stage. I'm currently assessed as low risk so a bit worried about it!

Thanks.

Do you have a high bmi? Anything picked up on your scan? A family history of anything? Maybe ring your midwife and ask her/him.

I had consultant appointments in all my pregnancies, but in my case, I was consultant led, and it had been explained to me (by the midwife) why I was consultant led. So not surprising for me to get consultant appointments.

It seems a bit odd to be given a consultant appointment if all's going well and you're not consultant led.

If you're worried about the why of it, I think I'd try calling the midwife about it on Monday and asking about it.

I'm due for my 16 week appointment soon anyway so going to ask then just wondered if anyone on here had ideas! My BMI was 29.7 at my booking appointment (which was late at 12 weeks due to GP messing up) so it could be that although midwife wasn't concerned. Only thing in family history is diabetes (both grandfathers). Nothing i'm aware of on my scan, we didn't want the nuchal screening and sonographer said everything was present!

You won't necessarily stay consultant led. I have one appointment around 23 weeks with a consultant because of my high BMI. She was happy everything was fine and passed me back to midwife led care after that one apoointment. It's probably nothing to worry about at all.

Sorry to hijack Grin I have a consultant appt around the same time (mine is because we did ivf i guess) but OH is away that day - is it an appt I should take someone with (e.g. My sister) or is it quite a personal

I suppose I'm really asking what do they actually do!

Thanks in advance

At our first consultant appointment they just talked through their plans for me, what scans I'll have and when etc, took 5 minutes.

I had a consultant appointment for my first pregnancy because of previous abdominal surgery. The doctor basically took one look at my notes, said she didn't know why I was there and sent me away again. It was really worth taking time off work for that!

Mine was also quick. Just a look at my notes, a chat, listened to the baby and off I went. Unless you're already aware of any high risk issues, I think its unlikely you'll have any surprises at the consultant appointment.
